I'm ridiculously excited about this contest.
I am too, and I'm not even in it!!
It will be so great to see the results. We have had contests like this in the past and they were
terrific.
We're fortunate to have this venue (thanks to Ed and Cindy). This is such a good way to use it! I know that many folks will be consulting their Michael Ellis DVDs and Ed's articles.
I've done quite a bit of "take and hold in your mouth" training as well as targeting with a nose. So targeting with a foot is completely new AND Kenz has to figure out something besides the highly ingrained nose/mouth work. And she's also soft in nature so if she *thinks* she is wrong it kills drive.
It's fun figuring out the balance she needs to stay highly motivated and how to set her up for success. And then how much to reward before upping the requirements. And I LOVE seeing her try stuff. Anyways, with all that said, we had a good session tonight
This is a very mild version of him wanting out of the kennel. What I normally do is tell him to sit and take his bark collar off before he shocks himself whining or barking. Its hard to do with all the fidgeting plus I have one hand right now. He will sit but is clearly anxious and has to be reminded too much. I want him to instead of acting insane, just sit and wait to be let out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTJcAzUNsNE
This is his first session of marking him for sitting and waiting. He already knows "kennel" (go in kennel) but what I am shaping is the calm sit and wait...we have a ways to go. lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVvhBf_Fi8o
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
I wish I had a tripod or someone to film for me, since being able to look over what I'm doing with Bo would be really helpful to fix the mistakes I'm going to make.
If you have an Academy Sports near you I got mine for about $10 a few years ago. Good quality for what I paid for it. I tore apart a non-functioning camera to get a tripod mount and hot glued it to a spare iPhone case. It's not pretty but it works.
