I am late getting started - Heiland broke out in the hives after his 1st lepto vax (some dogs have died here and the Vet really wanted him protected) but no more Lepto vax for him .. a few days later he got a bacterial infection in the hair follicles on his snout - ouch - training again put off - then teeth bleeding from teething and a drugged dog on Benadryl - then, no way could I figure out how to reduce the file size of my camera video function to small enough files to upload and link.
I thought I was out of the contest but .... taaadaaa I am not. No, it won't be anything spectacular but Heiland will get some training on having his almost all new teeth brushed and also putting on a muzzle .. I was going to use my tiny dog for teeth brushing and Heiland for the muzzle but hey, I will use him for both.
The tiny dog is a pocket dog and obeys all the time anyway.
We won't win prizes but it will be fun and I know that you internet angels will tell me what I am doing wrong.
It's so inspirational to watch the videos .. Bob, I want your dog .. so beautiful and smart ... or maybe Thunder's owner is talented .. nah, the dog is smart (evil grin)
Thank you Connie, for making this happen. Even if we don't get the training we wanted to accomplish, the videos of ppl teaching are priceless.
I have a question... Does anyone know if its possible to edit videos in photobucket? I have some quick videos I took tonight. The quality was poor (but viewable) in the original version, and for some reason the uploaded version is so much darker than the one I can see on my camera, I doubt anyone here could see anything useful... I don't have any video editing software.
Here's a link to the bizarre dark video of where we are at.
If you can make out anything suggestions are welcome
He gets all grumbly in the middle I think for 3 reasons.
1. I wasn't very consistent in rewarding only clear barks when originally teaching "woof". Unfortunately, that doesn't work so well for this trick. We were doing pretty well up until this morning though.
2. It's a symptom of trying to get a halfway decent video for the contest, (thinking it was ending today). I started rewarding for a random number of barks (1-3) before he was ready.
3. He's hungry and is offering behaviors faster than I can reward them. Frustrating for both of us... However he does this when he's not hungry sometimes too, especially for barking. Any ideas?
Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I'm 6 months pregnant and hoping it's not twins

Kristin, can you remind us of what the goal is for you? I started watching (yes, I can make out a lot), but can't quite see what's going on with the luring from your right side.
Also I'll make a post about video editing in Photobucket.
Lol, the luring from my right side is merely to get him in range of the camera. He keeps gravitating to that side because the treats are on the counter over there.
I'm trying to teach him to "count" by barking, but on reviewing this video and also the one other one I've got on my photobucket account I'm realizing how much is really going on here...
In the other video I also ask him to sit repeatedly, because he keeps backing up too (which I now realize he thinks may be linked to the bark command). So he's really a very confused puppy dog.
I think what I really need to do is to go right back to marking for only one clear bark.
