" I got lost trying to find the point in this thread"
No kidding!
Huskies are bred to run and pull for humans and if that's the job they do it better than any other dog. Border collies are bred to work sheep and they are the best breed at that --- and since herding takes thinking and interaction with humans AND smarts (ability to stay on task, think ahead etc.)
they make great training dogs for lots of other things.
5 month old pups don't pay a heck of a lot of attention to any one thing for very long. When my dog was 5 months old he was at his absolute WORST.
You should have seen him load the sheep into the trailer yesterday. He was the BOMB. The 2 yr old 80 lb English Shepherd and the hired man's ACD cross were confined to the pickup. We used the GOOD DOG for the toughest job, the job where thinking was critical and mistakes mattered and too much pressure would be a wreck.
It's all just patience and time and don't give up.
I'm not sure Duane, but I don't think Natalie is impressed by the you, Hutton, Goodrich, and Berlin name drop. She wants to SEE something.
Never asked her, you, or anyone else to be impressed. I gave a direct response to her question. I don't live for the "internet naysayers". This is all humorous to me. I can keep going as long as she does.
I correct my pet whale by poking her with a harpoon...its a bit impractical because she's not always in reach in that big tank and goes into avoidance when pushed...staying away from me. There's got to be a way to remotely correct her, I would use an electric shock but I'm also in the water while training so that's probably not a good idea. *sigh*
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.

How about getting a few Electric eels...marker training them to hook together in a collar big enough to fit around the killer whale. Once they KNOW the "collar" command, then teach them to "electrify" on a hand signal from you, thus shocking the whale with no harm to you!
