Don't many if not most of the problems today with BSL, knee jerk reactions, and viscious horses basically come down to ignorance and irresponsibility so prevalent today?
I think that may be a part of it, but I also think it goes deeper, and we currently seem to be living in a zero tolerance society, in addition to other issues, lack of values, morals, education, instant gratification, etc.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.

Although a PITA and not fair (IMO), BSLs have become a fact of life.
One more reason why people should put more thought and effort into selecting a proper breed for their situation...
Yes.
I'm also very opposed to BSL. But I also think some of this comes down to making choices, and living with the consequences of those choices. If one lives in a community that bans a certain breed of dog, then the choices are: move, choose a dog that is allowed, or work to change the law.
If one can't afford the extra insurance, training, or whatever is required to responsibly own a certain breed, then that's not the best match for them.
The owners of apartment buildings, stores, campgrounds, etc. have the right to limit whether or not all or some dogs are allowed there. But with a little searching, it's pretty easy to also find dog-friendly businesses that you can patronize.
I've never had an issue with our homeowners insurance, and our agent knows how many and what kinds of dogs live here.
My insurance don't care about dog breed as they state that it is your responsibility to contain and train your dog. Now try to have an iguana! and not pay a huge extra!
