Duane, thank you for your imput condescending, though it seems . I did strongly consider your opinion, and am generally in agreement with most of it. I do have a few questions though if it's alright. Do you or have you raised or trained working gsd, and if so any czech or DDR ? Long long ago, like 20 years ago I worked with E.O.D. gsd while in the Navy. During desert storm. My brother worked with SAR while he was security police in the Air Force, along with their version of k9. Growing up we had a Marine trained gsd that my father, a Marine worked with in Vietnam. My sheba is a retired afgan dog from Ft.Sill, an Army dog. I am 43 and have had various gsd, working, show, mixed, and European to American and mixes of these. Ivan was obtained for personal family protection, and a hope of some therapy traing. My wife a retired nurse due to several strokes is 100% handicaped and heelchair dependant. Ivan does very well with her in every way. I will no longer brag on my dog or his pedigree. He stans on his on merits. Perhaps with all this I still am stupid , at least to those who raise roachback show ring AKC gsd. I know nothing of that and very little of sporting dogs. Again I'm open minded and want the best for Ivan. Mabe I get my terms wrong...
Why aren't ivans pics loading right it just says an image but thers not one

Roger, I've read this entire thread, and nowhere did I see anyone imply that you were stupid. Nor did I see anything that warrants YOU dissing anyone's dogs... I have an AKC registered GSD. That does not make her a roachback in any sense of the word. Her pedigree is just as impressive as Ivan's - but I don't throw it in anyone's face...
I think that the disagreements here are just related to different vocabulary regarding definitions of defensive drive. Duane is right about the definition though..defense comes out when the dog think's it's life is in danger, not when it's protecting territory... territorial aggression is not defense.
Now that we got that straight, can we all be respectful of each other?
Thank you. I really don't want to ask Connie to get out the spanking gloves...
Ill play nice, the roachback was in reference to how AKC showline has many dogs with the slant back that often makes them have a hardertime as a working dog, and how the drives of working dogs often differ than that of show dogs. A good dog is a good dog though and we all agree on that
Roger that link isn't working- it's saying it's unavailable - try right clicking on the pic on facebook and click on "copy image URL" then paste it here. It should end in jpg for us to be able to see it.
My apologies if you thougt I was condescending. I sincerely thought I was trying to help someone who could understand his dog better. Also, others peruse these threads looking for advice, and maybe someone else would get some good from it. Forgive me, but what you have posted here does not reflect the vast experience that you have.
FWIW, it's always dangerous to go on the internet boasting about a totally unproven dog.
ETA: I did take some bites off of some Belgian w/l dogs last night.
