Very high % of genetic heart issues with the Cavaliers.
Yes, anybody thinking of getting one should be well-aware of the health conditions known to the breed. There are the heart issues, along with something called syringomyelia which involves the skull and the cerebrospinal fluid.
I'm not suggesting any breed of dog should be ruled out because of this or that health condition. Every breed has their own set of issues, and it's a very personal decision. I know Betty is more aware of this than many of us, but for others who may be reading here, always do your homework and be aware of what you may be dealing with in the future.

Thanks for this Cautionary Info, my cyber friends !!!
I have never owned a Cavie, and the two I've know personally were healthy little dogs who both lived in good condition past the age of 10 years, so I was not aware of these serious concerns before now -- Just one more reason why I really LOVE being a Regular on this Forum
Certainly tough and determined.Lots and lots of energy. Needs a job, experienced owner. Iam starting to see them placed in pet homes, people without a clue what they are , rather sad.
My guy is 8, which is amazing to me.
Anyway, I'm starting to think about another dog....just to think about it.
Has anyone ever known a papillon? They seem smart and athletic.
Betty, I'm going to the huge Golden Gate Kennel Club benched show at the end of January and that got me to THINKING:
The little "PBGV" is Not a Toy breed, but they are small & extremely SWEET -- IMHO they're like a perfect combo of Hound & Terrier who like being Lap-Dogs indoors, but are also Rugged Enough for outdoor farm life ... Plus, they're just so Cute Have you ever known one?
Temperament wise they are much more active from the two that I've seen. Different breedings also.
Yes, they're NOT much like Basset Hounds But they're VERY affectionate, and they do Like having a Job !!! I've really Loved every PBGV that's made my acquaintance -- I don't know if Mary Tyler Moore had them, though, so will have to Google that: YEP, she had one named "James Bond"...
