Thank you Connie for passing on Kelly's msg.
And thank you Kelly.
I will keep all your replies in mind, and to let you know. He is not allowed around the kids, or I should say close to the kids, unsupervised, period. No bones when they are around. No off leash, he is right now either beside me in the house only, or with Jim in the porch, where the kids do not go.

For a time a few years ago we had an English shepherd, essentially a unrefined " wild type "
Lassie farm dog. This dogs sire came from a big ranch in Montana, a working dog, not a house dog.
80 lbs.
Supposed to be husbands dog.
We had a lot of the behaviors that you describe. I did NILIF. The dog was fine with me, but challenged the hired man, and he beat up my Pinker, which I did not forgive.
If A dog has a bossy mean streak and not everyone in the home knows how to manage the dog, and Are not professional with the dog, especially when the dog is adolescent....we'll, it can be a lot of trouble.
At 3 Our dog attacked my husband. We don't have this dog any more.
Now my Pinker was terrible also.. Just a couple of years ago I used my hand to push him out of the dishwasher where he was " pre washing " , just casually reached down, hand on his chest, and shoved him out of there.....and he bit. My fault. If I'd just said, " out ", he would have back d right up, and sat down, good boy that he is.
But Pink only weighs 30 lbs. Not handling him " right " doesn't have dreadful consequences. And I almost always handle him right. And we have no kids.
Just my thoughts.

Anyway, your post said "looking for tips".
NILIF was key for us. No petting or affection. A "working relationship" really, for a couple of years.
Bring the food bowl for food. Bring the leash for any car trip. Etc.
Sometimes I wondered what was the point of even owning Pink.
I yearned for a hound, or a setter, a gentle loving doofus.
Always "thinking" about my "relationship with the dog ", I mean it seemed CRAZY.
Connie said, "keep it up".
Now, at 8-9, he is terrific. He has been good since 4-5.

I have gotten past the forms of aggression on the vid. And I can see him absolutely being a pain inflicted, himself, as I have not actually pronged him hard, and re direct aggressive.
I love this video. And am very willing on the work involved to help him along.
I would love for someone to tell me what tools to buy for long haired breeds, and need someone who manages the buys to send me the full vid, as now my phone is buffering the vid so much i have to back up to continue.
Any Leesburg staff want free rein on my visa, pm me. I am all ears!
And I just say this now, as I am having a horrid time watching the on demand, without it stopping or freezing, and can't get into my account to ship the vid, redeem my coupon, or look at other videos I may need,or view the catalog.

Thank you Betty. As he is not meant for the kids, is the only reason I am not sending him back.
They don't want or need a dog. This boy is for me only, I was hoping *us, but I know it will just be us adults handling him.
I have been in a spot, where a bear entered my home. And the dog did not alert. I have also ran into a bear, where the dog was fearful. Both times, were not this dog. I want him to alert, and bark. I don't want to kill drive.
This breed was recommended for the barking and for its ability for cold climate. He has done well with the climate, beyond my expectations. The bark, yes also. But the leash work is our biggest issue. I wish video on demand didn't make my 3 hr vid now 6 hrs...

I also have the same problems with some vids.. Some are unbearable brcause of the waste of time. I probably will order the DVDs. We only have to pay the difference between vid and DVD.
Congrats to your success with the problem-guy!

I'm not understanding this line of thinking at all. The dog lives in your house, right? The kids live in your house, right? Are you prepared to spend the next however many years making sure there is never any interaction between this dog and your kids -- or any other guests who may be in your home? I would never be comfortable with a living situation like that. The consequences of one moment of inattention could be tragic.
I'm not saying whether you should give this dog back to the breeder or not. As others have pointed out, none of us knows you, knows the dog, or have personally observed the situation and behaviors you describe. I am a bit confused, anyway, because you have started some threads about this dog, describing problems you're having but saying how well he's learning, then your next thread is discussing how horrible things are, then maybe even later in the same thread, you say something to the effect that things aren't really that bad after all.
So I'm not really clear on what the true problem is, and it's why I have stayed out of threads about this dog until now. But bears or no bears, I would not own a dog that could not be trusted around my kids if I turned my back.
Just my two cents.

So instead of asking for help, I should just clam It? I have seen some seriously silly questions when I look back at the previous posts, and they were answered.
I have had the last 2 dogs be managed away from the kids, so it is nothing new to me.
I will stop being foolish, and keep my work/ pup rearing issues to myself.
Sorry to be a pest, won't happen again.

Nobody is saying not to ask questions- they are just confused as to what exactly you are asking for help with- I too was confused at times.
If you want to pm me your address I will send you the dominant dog DVD.
