That is, in a nutshell, the most important post that I have ever seen on this webboard about schutzhund or sport training. No -F-ing around. . .
Yet, Schutzhund in some areas do not recognize working dogs, unless they are controled by some government agency??? What about those great PP dogs being omitted?
Did you by chance know I was into horses first, or was that just chit luck?
he, he, he...just luck. But I'm sure you've noticed too that folks who are into horses often also love dogs. I have dogs, 'cause I can't afford the horse I want (pure Friesians cost like an suv!) ....otherwise I'd have both!
As for the Machismo thing...oh, yeah, I totally agree. I also think the "brag on my tough dog" thingy is often tied up with personal "control" issues. Maybe that's why the Germans (and Dutch) are often very tough on their dogs...?
IMHO obviously, not meant to offend any one person, cause that's a real sweeping statement I know. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Well in schutzhund circles most dogs are not bred to unless they are points dogs. In most cases it is either the points dog or a dog hat is owned by a top handler that gets the breeding.

True for the GSD, it is no wonder the malinois is now the world's police service dog and the GSD keeps getting its butt kicked in dogsports. For some reason this statement isn't true in the Malinois
Thank you Kevin, I should have explained that if implied that statemnt for the GSD. I think it is because there really isn't the extention of the show Malinois that there is for the GSD. The Malinois is becoming the working dog of our future. Heck even at the USA National a Malinois beat the GSD.
Take Lewis Maletasta(?) If he had a diffrent handler/trainer we most likley would have never heard of this dog, and thus, he had a strong influence on the Mink line's popularity.
My TD trains two dogs that satisfy different needs for him. One of his dogs is a 9. In a bark and hold he will continually bump the sleeve instigating the helper to fight him and as soon as you correct him for this will turn around and go for you in full fight drive. He then must be hung away from the handlers body while he wildly fights until he submits or passes out. Immediately after he starts the whole process again just as strong as the last. The second dog is a 7 who is a pure point dog.
Another point to note is that when most of us say a dog is a 9 they really are a 7-8. Ed and Kevin travel the world training and watching literally thousands of dogs work. Their perceptions of drive is not the same as some.

Their perceptions of drive is not the same as some. I agree. All of us to some degree or another have kennel blindness. Just some more than others. That is why it is important to have someone else judge as well. I am good but I still don't think I am good enough to judge that in my own dogs. Someone elses not a problem...mine no. So I have Bernhard do it.
