I learned a new trick for wooden floors from a smart breeder in the Atlanta area who also happens to be a talented wood worker ( Mike Guman...smart guy! ).
A real wooden floor, after you sand and buff it down, can be treated with the same varnish that they use on school gymnasium floors - the stuff is special order, but remember how *tough* gym floor coating were back when you were in school?
( Old Earth Dog Scott, now I know when you went to school they were still teaching in caves, just trust me on this one, OK? )
The better grade wooden floor coating still doesn't eliminate the need for good nail care , but it helps!

Fabulon polyurethane is the finish you need for wood flooring.
I used it on the oak flooring I installed in the house. Four years now without a toenail scratch.
You will have to look to find it. Stores that deal with the pro trade are your best bet. It also follows the rule of the worse it smells the better it works.
Get the Heavy Duty version.

The shedding stuff slows down the shedding, but does not eliminate.
Better item is inflight coat formula. And a good cost. Used on a few rescues with thyroid/back skin issues and clear up everything. Better skin and coat with reduced shedding.

When I bought my first...er...cave , a friend of my dad was a custodian at a local hight school. As a house warming gift, he refinished our hardwood floors with gymnasium sealer. That was 38 yrs ago and it still looks great cept for where we carpeted the floor.

This is a hilarious thread. Personally, I plan on saving all the dog hair and knitting new dogs. Hopefully, I can work the waterproofness of my boyfriend's lab in with my GSD somehow.

The great thing about dog hair is it makes vaccuuming seem so worthwhile. People without German Shepherds will never have the sense of accomplishment when watching the true color of carpet or a rug show through. Each week I vaccuum the large rug in the bedroom. Watching it go from the light color of their undercoat to the dark purple it was intended to be makes it seem like time well spent.

LOL, absolutely we have dog hair in the car! We own two long coated German Shepherds we take to the mountains several times a month. I know that many people consider long coats a pain in the rear because of the amount of grooming, but for me it is quality time with my dogs to groom them which they absolutely love anyway. As for the hairs around the house, I've already accepted the fact I'm going to find them everywhere so I don't stress if I find hair.

for damp, musky , dog or other odors, i have found whole coffee beans to be great for absorbing these. i just put about a cup full in a sandwitch bag ,punch a bunch of small holes in it and lay it in the floorboard. i also have just thrown a handfull in map pockett,on the doors. just jt.

No GSD is 'worth his salt' if he doesn't shed at least 1 ton of 'dust bunnies' a day. I live to vacuum. I also have a cat that seems to think that her 'lot in life' is to compete with my GSD to see who can exhale the most hair in one day. I, too, live with only wood floors with scratches & area rugs & leather truck interiors in order to survive the 'hair war'. I won't even talk about all the hair that is on my clothes all the time. No matter what I wear I look like a had a fight with a lint trap. I can never seem to get it all off no matter what kind of lint brush I use. But I also feel that living life with the love & companionship of a GSD outweighs all the 'headaches' that we have all mentioned.

The best car/SUV for this problem, if you can call it that, is the Honda Element. No carpets, just a very durable, washable/hosable vinyl-type flooring. The upholstery, too, washes easily and does not seem to trap hair.
I'm selling mine if anyone's interested!
