1. Don't do cut the tail like that.
2. I wouldn't do it if it wasn't done at the right time.
3. Joe, I'm betting you like Rotts without tails. Maybe I'm wrong.
4. Docking and Cropping is not necessary with any breed, it's all perspective.
5. Lauren's earlier post was right, but if I said I wouldn't crop and dock on breeds I felt it looked better on I'd be lying.
Brad, I love the stocky look of the Rott, the docked tail adds to that I think. It makes the dog look more square.
I haven't seen too many pits with docked tails so I guess I'm just not used to it.
I guess it's like when you see a dobe with floppy ears, they just look out of place, you know what I mean?
If the procedure is done very early, I see nothing wrong with it, but I don't see why one would risk using anasteshia on their dog just to cut its tail off??? JMHO
I am really thinking the good Doctor likes to rock people's minds a bit.First you were asking about cropping your Pits ears now you are looking into docking it's tail. What's up with that?Next we will be hearing the method of how your "well respected" vet crops ears right?.I gather this vet is a livestock vet and the closest animal to a dog he's treated was a goat. And no my knickers are not in a twist, just think it's all a little pathetic.
This is a matter of opinion. VanCamp is right....let's all be cool here.
Someone mentioned a baby being circumsized. Firstly, I never like linking human and dog situations together like this. Secondly, I don't think it's a fair comparison because like Brad said, no man remembers the pain of circumcision as a baby. We cannot be sure of the same on a dog who has it's ears or tail hacked.
I have decided after careful consideration to leave my APBT well alone and not alter her in anyway.
If I lived in the 'real' world i.e the West, I would probably get her ears done because I think it looks better. However, seeing as I don't, can't guarentee the vet here will do a good job or that she won't get an infection and die, I just don't think it would be a responsible thing to do.
Thanks for everyone's input on this subject. I feel that the right decision has been made at the end of the day.
Andy,
I like to wear women's underwear because I am a women.I understand your lingo,I grew up with it.Nothing against you,not that you care.Just your dog is a pet(a rescued pet I think you said??)Cropping her ears is alright if she is still in the age when they do it,but the tail thing is way past when it is done.I don't see the point of putting her through the stress.I worked on a farm for years, the elastic band method is how they neuter their dogs. It's not the greatest thing to do with a new dog that you need to gain trust from.
