Re: the beautiful pinto GSD...I had a piebald Siberian that one fellow insisted he knew was an
"Akita-dog" even after I explained it was a siberian, had bred it and had the papers to prove it. No way - "he knew an Akita when he saw one"

tiggy2, there are more experts in the world then novices for any subject!
What's sad is that the akita and GSD can be standing next to each other. Same dumb question asked. Go figure.
Then when the Akita sheds I don't take her out in public anymore. Hear comments like your dog has the mange, or what's wrong with your dog. I quite trying to explain unless a child ask. maybe if we educate them some of the assinine questions will deminish.

(showing my REDneck side) Todd, Todd...it's redNECK, not redFACE!
Actually, the guy was correct in one thing...they do shoot the coyotes here all the time. And with good cause. The coyotes territory has been "fragmented" by urbanization and now the beasts prey on local cattle. They wait till a cow starts calving and then attack her, ripping the newborn to shreds.
We've put 5 ft horse wire against the 7 strand barbwire all along the back side of our property; not to keep our neighbors Beefmaster herd out so much as to keep the dogs in (particularly the sable). I don't want the foreman to mistake HER for a coyote!

One of my personal favorites for getting rid of the GSD:

Coyotes, there's only one sure way to deal with those things when it comes to culling them down. I'm not going to say what that is on the board though. lol
Dogma, that one guy would've made me so mad hearing that. There's people that live close to my land that are some REAL idiots, I mean Redneck Supremes. They shoot at anything that moves, all forms of wildlife, pets, etc. If anyone ever shot my dog they'd get to see what real fight drive was all about. Of course they'd probably not get to see much of anything for very long after that to begin with. Maybe you should've told him how this one dumb idiot in the news did that you heard and it turned out to be someone's dog, and then something horrible happened to the guy. Something really bad.

Another stupid comment on my Black GSD:
Lady: Do you know what her cross is?
Me: Shes a german shepherd
Lady: So you don't know what else is in her mix?
Me: She's a pure bred.
Lady: Im sorry to tell you this but they don't come in black dear, i think they saw you coming.
At this point i give up and just say to have a bit of a look around the internet for them and walk away.
The other i get a bit is :shes big for a Kelpie!

I've had that one too. Mine's black and tan and she said she thought he must be "half." I started to say the next time you have a life go read a book, but she was old and I didn't want to say anything. lol
I could go on ALL night about that. I've been insulted by people non stop on my GSDs. The only thing that's funny is there American, they never ask that. BUT you got to know something first I guess to know that. If it's not 110lbs and looks like Rin Tin Tin then it's either a bad one or a mutt supposedly. lol Whatever . . .
(On the American lines, what can I say. I didn't know jack before I came to this board.)

I sometimes walk to the post office from my house with my dogs. No leashes, in what I call their hunting heel position. They stay within 4-5 feet and stay out of the road. When I get there I put them on a down and go inside for no more than 2-3 min. When I came out once there was a man and woman admiring them and there comment was,"I heard you couldn't train terriers but if we got one as nice as yours, we would get one. Is that some kind of special breeding that makes them lay so still?" When they asked for the breeders name I told them I found them by the roadside and just got lucky with how lazy they were.

Anytime a solid black GSD comes into my local shelters-it get's labeled as a GSD/Lab mix or Chow mix.
Everytime I take my pup (sable GSD) to PetsMart people ask if he is a wolf. Stopped in at the Vet's office inside Petsmart one time to grab a pack of Frontline and the lady working in the office had to ask what kind of dog he was!!!

While not dog related, it still is a funny animal story.
When my wife and I were in college, I had my first Rott and she had some damn lopp eared bunny, white in color. We used to take them to a local lake in the downtown area where a lot of people would jwalk during the evenings.
Anyway, the Rott and bunny got along real well, believe it or not. The Rott would lay on his back and the bunny would climb on his stomach and shit on him . One night, a woman and her teenaged daughter came up to us and thought it was simply amazing that a dog and a LAMB would get along so well. WTF???? a lamb???. Maybe she left her glasses at home.
