I'm so very sorry, David.
The life and times of Fama were among my favourite posts. Your bond with, and love of her shone through every time you wrote.
I read somewhere recently that the trauma of losing a dog, the best and most loyal friend you will ever have, is worse than losing a person. That's certainly been the case for me.
I send sincere condolences, and love to you and your family.
Rest peacefully, Fama. A good and faithful life in service and retirement is your shining legacy. Bless you, sweetheart.
Thank you so much Tracey. I am definitely having a harder time with her passing than I typically do with another person. I'm not exactly sure why, but it seems to be the case for me.

We chose to put Fama down yesterday. She could no longer get up off the floor or walk. I was helping her around by supporting her back end with a towel.
We were no longer able to control her pain caused by spinal degeneration.
Every effort was given to keep her happy and comfortable as long as possible.
She was given a heroe's burial.
I miss her more than words can say.
I'll write more when I can.
David
Rest in Glory, our HERO Fama, the Kick-A$$ Bomb Dog...
Oh David, I've thought about your Semper Fi VFW Military Service K9 Fama so many times over the last few years -- She must have been well into her teens, and I wondered if perhaps you would help her pass without letting us know ... But now at least we can all share in expressing our grief, and experiencing a measure of closure by honoring Fama.
May God bless you & your family in this time of sorrow & mourning, David
Thank you Candi. She was almost 13, but she definitely had some miles on her body.

David, I am sorry to hear of Fama’s passing. She was an amazing dog, and will be missed by many.
The Last Battle
Author Unknown
If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this – the last battle – can’t be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don’t let grief stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me until the end.
And hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We’ve been so close – we two – these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.
Hugs to you and your family, David.
Thank you so much for sharing this Kelly. I cried a lot when I read it, and I still do when I read it to a friend or family member. We are going to put this on a plaque for her.

And I will be returning to writing very soon. I am getting my notes in order and reviewing the first episodes for revision.

I believe it will prove to be cathartic & therapeutic in both the grieving & the healing process, David

Oh David, thank you for posting one of Fama's farewell photos for those who could not be there in person to bid her adieu with God's Speed and a fond: "Well done, thou Good & Faithful servant!"
