New week. . . new month. . . where's the music?
A little music history -
Elizabeth Cotton, born in 1895, picked up the guitar at age 7. Left-handed, she played a right-hand guitar upside down. She wrote Freight Train when she was 11. She wasn't "discovered" until she was in her 60's working as a maid. Her employers, the folk-singing Seeger family, heard her one day playing guitar like they'd never heard before. They adopted some of her style in their own music. She appeared on Pete Seeger's TV show in 1965 playing the song she wrote almost 60 years earlier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMSYzFdloqY
Mississippi John Hurt, born in 1893, started playing at age 9. He made several recordings in his mid-30's, then slipped back into obscurity for 40 years until he was re-discovered in Mississipi in 1963 at age 70. He recorded several albums and played extensively back east - at the Newport Folk Festival, even on the Tonight show - until he died 3 years later. He also appeared on Pete Seeger's show, circa 1965: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRQgQhcEPHI

Hey Sheila, I'm late to answer this....I wish that I could come with you to Boston. We'd have a great time. Have a blast.
Buddy Guy & Johnny Lang tour together around these parts on occasion. Last time I saw them both (together & seperately) was in New Haven & Wallingford,CT a few years ago. Johnny Lang was a young kid (teenager) that Buddy Guy took under his wing a number of years ago & they often tour together. Johnny is in his 20's now. I posted about him on this tread a while back. They sure have a stong 'following'.
The first time I heard the song was from this man. It's not the clip I was looking for but a good rendition.....Thank you Elizabeth, thank you Elizabeth!
