How about with a "Massive" or a "Rock Wiler"
I have had people argue with me about whether my GSD was instead a long haired shepherd.
Several people have asked "does he likes cats?"
To which I respond: "Yes, he says they taste just like chicken"
Please forgive either my stupidity or my ignorance, but why have some GSD's very long luxurious coats, while others are short? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
I always thought a GSD was a GSD but a lot of us good old Brits say there are long coated and short coated types... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
I've seen different lengths of short coats too, but typically a long coated GSD won't have an undercoat to protect their skin, and a normal coat has the normal coat and an undercoat... but that said, I've seen some GSD's with a very short coat and others with, what I consider to be, a normal coat. It's all genetic, just like the different colors in working and showline dogs.
I was just looking at coat lengths myself. My 12 month old male has a medium short coat if that makes sense. I was looking at photos today at the following link:
The slide shows for the 2 days show a wide variety in coat lengths. I saw dogs with shorter coats than mine and some with longer. It just had me thinking.
Ian- what've you done? I've just looked at the slide shows and I've think I've fallen in love- with the Swiss White Shepherd (that I didn't know existed). They are BEAUTIFUL!!
If I ever managed to get one of those (which if you've read the problems I'm having at the moment) will not be for another 10 years at least <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I'd be back on here telling you about people stopping me and saying things like 'That's a skinny looking samoyed, or Uhh a white GSD- that's a throwback you know, they normally cull them at birth, can it see and hear okay?(they say that about Boxers and Danes aswell) or is that an albino husky dog? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
this webiste has a couple of pics of the various coat types. I do not know how accurate the info is but thought that it might be useful. My 10 mos. GSD (Coach) is a plush coat.
