Some people flood the board with posts for the sake of posting, and I agree that that gets annoying. But it doesn't seem that that was Roger's intentions, rather a genuine concern for the dogs. Someone that was concidering cropping asked; "is it worth it?" To someone making that decision, Roger's posts have merit. I can understand why he'd get passionate about this subject, it's difficult to say, 'hey, to each his own', when in his opinion it amounts to mutilation. I don't think he was looking "to get a rise out of people", if he'd wanted to do that he would have resorted to sarcasm... I am not going to debate with you in this thread, hopefully it can be used for helpful info. instead I will shoot you over a PM.

Thank you, Simon -- People can get very heated on both sides of this issue...
Roger is a good guy, NOT a trouble-maker, and he didn't deserve to get jumped & ridiculed for his sentiments, IMHO

Can I add that, all question about surgery aside, Roger does indeed contribute a lot to this board and does *not* make it a habit to troll for trouble.

I saw his posts as triggered by concern for dogs and not a desire to rile anyone. JMO.

Nothing yet, are you sure you sent it to me, did you get mine?
Candi,
Maybe I dont see it but how did he get jumped? No one called him out on saying we harm our dogs and it is abuse twice? But we are the ones that jumped on him? I guess there are alot of things I will never understand.

Sorry to cause all this kerfuffle, folks, but all I intended to do was to post a different, strongly-held, POV.
Then I just felt it necessary to answer the responses, which I thought never really addressed my main question.

Please feel free to return to the 'how to' and ignore my 'why?'

My fault, I missed your original question.
I cant ans. for everyone but it is C.C. breed standard. And if you plan on doing any shows it honestly helps to get titles. It also helps with ear maintenence(sp)

It's a hot-button topic for sure. I respect your opinion and used to share it at one time. It's a topic I'm defensive about because I'm a Dobe person and they are a cropped breed. My feeling is, if you like the look of a coon-hound, get a coonhound. I also live in the midst of "Halti-ville" where prong collars are also considered cruel (I took a class for fun/to proof my training and wasn't allowed to use my prong because it might upset the other participants), and Shutzhund is thought of as a violent sport that is mean to the animals. I'm used to having to defend my position. I also do a lot with Greyhound rescue. I've seen what abuse REALLY looks like and I can't put my Dobe into the same category just for having a procedure done that was barely a blip on his radar. Though I do appreciate your apparent concern for animals.

Well, I also love black & tan Coonhounds <:-) but they look nothing at all like Dobermans (and they sure don't ACT like them either!) -- So, a much better solution is to do what we did & adopt a rescue Dobie that has all its natural equipment left intact (then you have the best of both worlds!) IMHO

I think that's a perfect solution You can have the dog you want, and give a deserving animal a loving home.
