Well we made it through the night. I slept on the couch, he had a bed on the floor. He was restless and kept turnning, whining, and wanting on the couch with me. I finally caved about 2:00 and let him on the couch with me (I know, I know. But I was sleep crazed). He did settle a little better and quit whining. (he hogged the couch, he is 110 lbs).
This morning he doesn't appear in obvious discomfort. I offered him water, he refused it. I baited it with yogurt, he took 3 laps, then refused it. So I know his tummy still is bothering him.
The wierdest thing is, I opened the door to take him out back, and he refused to go, looked sad, turned away. I didn't push it, shut the door (my mistake). A few minutes later, he squats and starts peeing in the hall, not 20 feet from me! I yelled "no! Outside" and he ran sheepishly to the door and went out side and finished his business. This dog has been bullet proof on his house breaking! So I know he isn't himself. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.

However, remember that we don't give sugar (including honey) when there's severe diarrhea. Sugar- and salt-heavy foods can exacerbate diarrhea in dogs. Also high-fat foods (which to me is anything that's over 10 or 15% fat).
Connie, it's a good thing your on-line. I'll just go to bed.
I'm sorry, Debbie.... saw this today and read back to see that yes, I was correcting you all over the place! I'm sorry. I just steamroller along, typing away and not noticing that I'm picking apart everything a poster says.....

That sounds like real lethargy, and yes, I'd watch his hydration and discomfort carefully. And make a second vet appointment.

I was gonna pm you, but decided this is a question that others might want to know the answer to also.
I am ordering the salmon oil and would like to know this:
If I only can afford one of the books Leerburg sells about RAW and natural diets (the vet and people bills are killing me) which one would you recommend I get? This is the list. I haven't read any of them just the articles posted on this site, which are good. This is the list:
Raw Meaty Bones
Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats
Raw Dog Food
Grow Your Puppy with Bones
The Barf Diet
Give Your Dog a Bone
Do I need any other supplements besides salmon oil and vitamin E?
Also, should I hold off on food this morning, or should I try giving him some chicken & rice with water added to help with his hydration?

I know you weren't asking me about the book, but I love Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats. You're talking about Kymythy Schultze's book, right? I have read the others and they are good, too, but I like some of the anecdotal things in her book, like her water discovery (hope I've got my books straight). It's what finally made my decision to order Ice Mountain home delivery for my dogs and cats. If you can only buy one, I think I would go for that one, but it's just an opinion.

I'd start with one of the two that LB gives to new puppy owners.
Both Raw Dog Food and Natural Nutrition are short and sweet and clear.
But I'd also try later to read more, because it really helps to have the theory and history solid, and because you'll get something out of all of them. I read every canine nutrition book that comes out; even if I think a lot of one is poorly-researched, I always find some kind of good lead in all of them.
I've handed out Schultze to several people.

Edit reason: yes to Schultze (MacDonald, too)

Has he pooped at all? Does his belly seem tight? Is he in discomfort?
If everything seems OK, I guess I would give him really small amounts of mushy diarrhea-soothing food and see how it goes before giving more.

No, he has only peed, that's why I have been waiting, to see what happens. His belly isn't as sensitive as last night. Last night if I tried to touch it he would give a low grumble/growl, like I don't feel good, leave me alone, not threateningly. Today When I touched it gently, no grumbling. He went right back to sleep after the pee incident, so he isn't in as much discomfort I think. Hard to tell, because he had periods of sleep even when he was in pain, ya know?

When you touched his belly last night, was it tight?
