Actually he didn't care much for the show... not the type that goes crazy when he sees other dogs on the TV. He's usually asleep by 9ish, so he was napping next to me on the couch. I woke him up to let him know about it, though.
Some as usual, seemed like they just didn't know what to do with their hindlegs, like the hindlegs weren't following correctly and it was messing up the coordination of their front legs (which were splaying as they trotted), and consequently messing up the trot, ruining the trot is more like it. It almost seemed on a couple that the hind paws hit the front paws a couple of times on the trot. Now that's sad.
...Those who favor the working line GSDs, like myself, have a hard time seeing what has been done to this beloved breed. But when I see a beautiful GSD, no matter what line, I say so. And there were a couple there that were beautiful.
I do NOT show, nor am I experienced in conformation. However, as a newbie I have to agree with this. I think they are beautiful by virtue of being GSD's. However, I have found that conformations of 'working line' dogs such as German and Czec look more appealing to me. They look more balanced and their gait appears more coordinated. My dog has some American in her but she flies like a rocket and doesn't have that awkwardness of gait. These dogs look best only in that 'show pose.' Why do they want them built like that?
That is a very good question Julie and the answer is, that phenotype is what wins, and winning for them is far more important than anything else. This, win at all cost in an effort to satisfy the judge who typically has never trained a working dog to work, is the reason bench shows have lessened every pure breed whose breeders defined there breed stock by such events. As clarification by lessened I mean, in functional conformation, health, and correct temperament. Norman Epstein
I think we are seeing in many breeds the results of intense inbreeding to make carbon-copy type to win dog shows. Maybe not so bad in the not so popular breeds but - isn't it the AKC that is getting cowhocks and stares out of BCs, both traits that breed needs?

Well said Norman. The priorities of the American Show Shepard breeder are nothing to do with making a dog that can do any type of work. As long as the dog can make it around that tiny little ring a couple of times (in one direction)they are very happy campers. What they have done to our breed is unforgivable. The only way they will ever get beyond the monstrosities they put out would be if people sent a very clear message by no longer buying ASS dogs. Unfortunately I don't see that happening any time soon.
Thank you Susan, but it would be a mistake to believe that this is occurring just in GSD dog breed, but is in fact affecting every pure breed whose breeders lust for fame and fortune on the backs of there dogs via such bench shows. Norman Epstein
