Just to be fair, I do some pretty bizarre things with my dog.
I tell her beforehand exactly what the training plan is for the day.
As in, "Okay Danke-doodle. Today I want to work on your heeling. Do you wanna heel, good puppy? Yeah? Okay, so we'll practice some very slow heeling, some down-out-of-motions and oh... you wanna do some about-turns puppy? Yeah? About turns? Okay, so we'll do some about turns too. Then we'll play fetch. Ooooh yeah, FETCH! And then maybe a nice long down to finish. Hows that? Good puppy? Yeah? OKAY! Lets go train!"
Several people can attest to how sappy I am with Danke.
I talk to her while I make dinner, too. She lays outside the kitchen door and watches me, and I tell her what I'm doing.
What can I say, she's a blast to talk to. She does the intense staring, head cocked to the side look that says, "I wish to G-d, I understood what you're saying mom!"
Actually, a lot of it is left over from when my son was younger. I used to narrate almost everything in our home for him.
If I'd known how talkative it was going to make him, I would have been mute for the first two years. The child does NOT shut up.
Ahhhh....I love it! Truly in love with her dog --- no one talks to their dogs like that unless they are in love with them --- ummm...I don't talk to mine like that...nope...
She is waiting with bated breath for any of these words: treat, eat, food, and cheese, or, if they come up missing, then walk, car, and outside.
You know, I think "bad guys" may be on that list too, and I'm pretty sure bad guys rate up there with treats.
It is totally worth sitting on the sidelines at the training field just to watch Alyssa take Danke out onto the field for protection work.
It's been a few weeks, but it went something like this as they went onto the field.
Ooooh...you wanna go get some bad guys, good puppy? Yeah? Bad guys? You want those bad guys, puppy? Yeah? Okay! Let's go get those bad guys!
Their teamwork was a beautiful thing to watch. I'm glad I got to see it.
