I'm biting the bullet here....
Is there any way to get Saki to me (in WI) from WA? I can't see him PTS before his time. (Assuming you all at the farm feel I am a suitable adopter??)
--Kel and the Pack
KELLY.... you are simply amazing. Not many people on the planet would open their home to an incontinent, blind, deaf, etc... ol' dog. What a wonderful heart you have.

Thanks, Barbara, but it's not that special. The old and sick ones need love too....
I discussed it with Kelly, and I agree with her that he should go to the Bridge surrounded by his friends. He lived most of his life at the farm, and that should be his last home. While he is welcome to live with me and my pack, it is not meant to be...
I personally find it difficult to look at a frosty muzzle and think that they have to die because funding for their home is gone. It's not fair to the animal. They have no control over things like this. And the old, sick ones are harder to place because they are old and sick... they will be more work and cost more money to maintain... but even one day of happiness for them is worth the money and the tears (to me).
I am hoping that all of the animals find loving and caring homes.
Sigh...

I agree 100%, but it IS special when someone is willing to take in an animal with incontinence issues (unless they are easily controlled by medicine).
Face it... deal with it... you are a special gal.
It sounds like the best decision which could be made in this ol' guys interest is the one you've described. Just because it is the right thing doesn't make it easy, though, does it?

Me too Kelly. I understand about Saki, though it's hard not to be a selfish "hero." Sometimes what we want isn't always what's best.
Keep us updated on the status and I'll keep cross-posting!

I think many of us will agree on that.... and just imagine, I'd guess 75% of the seniors that the farm had were surrendered by ORIGINAL OWNERS when they hit 'senior' status. These people owned them since they were cute fuzzy pups. It's ok when the pup poops or pees on your floor, but as soon as your old dog that should 'know better' does it, they get sent away. It is an inconvience to own an old dog. Yeah, they may need meds, more potty breaks, extra help getting up/down stairs, any number of things. To me, (and Kelly) and many other wonderful people that makes it so much more worth it to let them finish the time they have with us in a home they know and love. Instead, so many people give them up, to replace the spot that senior dog/cat used to fill with another cute puppy.
We had a couple of seniors (2 brothers, 11 & 14 yrs old at that time) that slept outside, by a gate the entire first week they spent at the farm. No amount of loving or coaxing could get them in at night. They wanted Dad, and that was the last place they saw him...they were going to wait. Broke my heart... They eventually adjusted to life at the farm, but it was not what they wanted. Spree lived to 14, and Bailey lived until the ripe old age of 17! (big, golden ret mixes)
Barbara and Kelly- do you want to know what the BEST part of letting Saki go to the bridge is? I know that he'll be waiting for ME, the owner of the farm, and a select few other employees up there.... WE are his family. It's a relief to know we can help him along, when he really may need us the most.

Excluding Saki, our last frosty muzzle went home today, to her ORIGINAL home! I'm going to tell you all her story. It's long, but worth the few min. to read it! (I'm not an author, so please forgive my writing!)
Sadie lived in Seattle, WA with her family, that included 3 kids she loved very very much. A happy chow mix, she did not fit the stereotype of chows. Sadie was friendly with anyone, especially children.
She'd walk to the bus stop every day with Mom to pick up 'her'. Living in a city, they had the typical 2 cement steps down to the sidewalk. On a very sad day, Sadie tripped on her way down, hitting her head. She yelped, and they continued to the bus stop. The neighbor kid saw Sadie, and ran up to her to give her the customary greeting. He grabbed Sadie's head and gave her a hug.
She bit him. In the face.
Turns out, after animal control seized her and found her face to be tender, x rays showed a broken jaw. She bit the kid because he hurt her. She was not being mean. The neighbors sued Sadie's neighbors, and the courts said the dog had to leave the County, or be PTS. Her family loved her to much to kill a young, sweet dog, and she was sent to the farm. She's been with us for about 10 years now, I think. She adjusted to life with us great after some time. She's always very happy to see my kids when they come out. Follows them around all day! She's a bossy gal, and defiantly the alpha female, but a fair ruler. Sadie is about 13 now.
Her family heard the tragic news about FurryTale loosing our home.
The neighbors that sued them have moved. They called, and are picking Sadie up at 1:00 today... Sadie is going HOME!!!!!!!!
I'm so thrilled. Sadie is a dog I was very concerned for. She's not young, very healthy, but over the 'adoptable' age. With her history (which we are honest about) we never considered her to be a good candidate for adoption. No one had come forward to give Sadie a forever home.
It could have not worked out any better. Sadie is going home.

Kinda.... lol. The cats have been 'adopted' by another local rescue. They will have better luck placing them then we will in the time restraints we have. (Nov 4th is our absolute deadline)
If you are local and want to check them out- they are at R.E.D. (Rescue Every Dog) They are on petfinder, and I believe facebook as well.
