Which could happen at any time with places like wally world going to just in time stocking practices. Our local one is often out of this or that. If their trucks got interrupted for a couple days, that store would be seriously empty.
EVERY grocery store would be completely empty if trucks were interrupted for just a few days. Within a week or 10 days at the most - it would not be pretty. Sounds like as long as your folks are here, you are in good shape. Assuming you live next door to each other.

I've been without power now for 24+ hours. I find that I'm only eating orange food. Cheese, clementines, carrots, and honeybells. I won't have scurvy, but my nose (the only part sticking out from underneath blankets) may be frostbitten soon.
I'm worried about leaving Ripley alone here tomorrow when I go back to work. That'll be almost 2 days in 40-some degree temps.

Meredith - he'll be FINE. Leave a few blankets on the floor for him to nest/curl up in and he'll nap the day away. Really. YOU drive carefully, however!

When we lost power for almost two weeks in the winter I set up a kennel and put lots of blankets over it as well as in it, the dogs curled up and stayed toasty warm.

Yeah, he's rolling his eyes at me now as I pile more layers on him. I promise to stop if he starts panting.

Wow, checked out some photos of the Boston area. As soon as I leave, they get a 'good' winter. I've never seen that much snow, ever, in Eastern Massachusetts. Enjoy!

We ran out of heating oil over a weekend in January last year. I tried my best to get the dog in bed with me but she was like "See Ya. I'm heading to my crate!"
I guess I made her little den too comfy with the extra blankets in it and the old bed spread over the top. She's no fool!

We got about 2 feet of snow here, plus drifts about 3 feet.
but i still managed to get tucker out...we just walked on the roads. then once we hit the park i let him off. He was tired after about 20 minutes of trapsing through the chest high snow.
the comical part was watching him try to go to the bathroom.
i got tired of watching him circle for 5 minutes, so i trampled down the snow for him.
yeah, im a sucker.
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

OMG you guys, more snow is coming down, lots of it! And more is supposed to fall sunday.
My husband went back to work for the first time today and it took me an hour to get him there (4 miles), before this latest round started falling. Picking him at 5 is going to be an adventure!!!
The roads this morning were actually worse than yesterday due to re-freezing and people were getting stuck all over the place. Then you have the A$$*&*&*& in big trucks swerving in and out of traffic to get around everyone and causing more problems and putting those trying to help unstick people at risk.
Still no bread or milk, the stores have gotten deliveries of it, but they announce it on TV and it sells out in about an hour.
I am thinking of making some homemade bread in a bit just so we have some.
At this rate I don't know when the kids will ever go back to school...
ETA:
I just turned on the news and there are damage reports starting to come in left and right now, The roof has substantial damage at the Oklahoma aquarium, a local college as well as the Hard Rock Casino had roofs collapse.
The marinas at the nearby lake are reporting damage in the billions to boats and homes. We are talking hundreds of ocean worthy yachts worth millions each sinking :O :O :O
Not to mention the tragic story of a car full of 8 people that drove off a bridge into the Arkansas River, killing 7 from hypothermia.
Loki and I did some touchpad and Leave it work this morning, I might even try to marker train the cat at this point.
