Yes, Chuck. There is more than a dog barking at a door.
Butch: Until these other conditions along with the barking at door problem are solved, other problems will manifest as this pup matures.
Strict OB is the order of the day on my opinion.
Back on topic! Sorry Chuck.
It's OK. I just have to try and keep things on topic. There is nothing wrong with having a little fun though. Its good to laugh. We will all live a lot longer!
I would suppose that if you would grasp the muzzle of a dog on a repeated every day basis for no apparent reason to the dog that you would end up with an aggressive dog.
Since "you" do not understand the theory nor proper way to administer the grasp nor the reason/theory behind it...I would suggest you not use this method. Just stick to your e-collar's and zap them at every chance you get or put that prong collar on and jerk the hell out of the dog and see what happens.
Wow, I go to work for a few hours and miss all this?
Just a side note about fingers possibly being bitten when trying to close a barking dogs mouth.
I have a nice hole in the second joint on my index finger that I am healing right now.... guess what I was doing???? Anyone care to guess? Puncture wounds bleed like a bast#$d and take forever to heal... especially in areas that bend. And no, he didn't try to bite me, if he had I would be missing my finger, it was a collision on my part.
Since I didn't get home until a few mins ago I am just now cooking dinner... Hot wings for dinner. No beer.
I think it a case of "Horses for courses" here.
Yes, with some dogs grabbing them around that mouth may be right on target, but, what about those who will bite you...fingers are little piss ass bastards compared to great big bones that can be chomped with little effort....and what about those dogs that will be totally crushed by such domanant behaviour by their master, this could just re-inforce that when someone comes to the door i should be shit scared and probably should defend myself cause last time i got the sh*t scared out of me.
As we are on a board here and not looking at the dog in question what realy is being offered here is what has worked for different people, different dogs and in different situations...at the end of the day no-one is 110% right or 110% wrong, It is for us to offer ideas hopefully backed with some sort of explination as to why we think it worked / went wrong...it is then up to the owner/trainer who knows the dog best to use their own experience with the dog in question and decide what may be the best suited solution on offer.
There is no need to get put out if someone points out where it can go wrong....it might save a finger or face for that matter!
What i find works for this kind of thing with MY dogs is purly teach command, show what it means and if it is not done when i say.... well my dogs know how much of a mess it makes when my head explodes They tend not to want to push it. But thats my dogs and my persona....And yes i am a hard unrelenting Bit%h....but im fair!
