WOW!
Talk about pointless.
Often we can agree to disagree on this site, within a thread.
WOW!
It should be sufficient to note we have differing points of view but apparently this thread is a winner take all exercise.
Natalie, you gots ta learn to lighten up. It is a good thing to champion one's position but every now and then discretion is the better part of valor.
I have agreed with and disagreed with, over the years, everyone who has been entertaining your posts. My experience with each of them is that they were almost always more gracious than I. Mea culpa.
That so many have taken the time to debate with you might be more a commentary on the stridency of your posts than the qualitative content.
Your positions are neither right nor wrong, merely obnoxious. That you don't value the time and intention of those who respond to you is painfully obvious.
Experience and theory, not experience or theory, or experience vs. theory. You seem more interested in, at least to this long time Leerburg forum poster, trying to discredit individuals who have over the years proven their mettle by posting valuable, useful information. To what end?
Time for us all to take a break. This thread has run its course.
I really am sorry I posted this morning. Mara, I'm sorry I added fuel to the fire.
Time to work with my dogs.

My whale has a strong desire to please. Tresa, are you harpooning under high distractions? Try the behaviors first in your living room, with low distractions--then move into the tank. You could also try tethering.

I correct my pet whale by poking her with a harpoon...its a bit impractical because she's not always in reach in that big tank and goes into avoidance when pushed...staying away from me. There's got to be a way to remotely correct her, I would use an electric shock but I'm also in the water while training so that's probably not a good idea. *sigh* Psst - prong collar Tresa. You'll need at least 100 of them linked together to go around the whale's neck

How about getting a few Electric eels...marker training them to hook together in a collar big enough to fit around the killer whale. Once they KNOW the "collar" command, then teach them to "electrify" on a hand signal from you, thus shocking the whale with no harm to you!
done & done!
I'm sorry but that's pointless and impractical....how on earth could I expect the eels to stay around her neck and wait for the entire training session??? What if they offer the shock behavior like our dogs offer a sit hoping for a freebee??? Then what? What would my whale do if she got shocked for nothing???

Tracy...the only distractions around her tank is Logan barking at her from the edge....the only problem was when he fell in once and she tried to help him out but he bit her.
Mara....that's a great idea. Maybe I could have a blacksmith make a prong collar with 2 foot links.

This thread is about dog training. If it can get on some kind of track, good.
It's not about the credentials of anyone responding. It was never meant to be. It's not personal; it's GENERAL.

Now that's really weird. Most replies seem to be to Connie, and then Mike Arnold mentions pointless, and it replies to me? That's gotta be another one of those forum bugs, right? like the missing Orca vids? Right?
P.S. Sorry Duane. It was a joke. Red doesn't look that good on you.

Do a search for "Kenzi" You'll find some video clips from the last training contest. But it's just trick training with a Border Collie so I'm not sure it counts.
Not you, Mara, Duane. He wants to keep banging at the fact that I have no experience so I shouldn't speak. I'm not questioning yours.

Yeah, I know Steve. I've been trying to help Natalie, and I lost it for a second. My shot was really directed at her. Sorry to catch you in the cross-fire.
