I have more fight drive than this dog and find this completely, utterly, unacceptable. Ive pinned him to the ground until he's squealed. Ive kicked him in the chest, but he doesn't care. He'll do it again next time, and every time.
I'd use a leash John. Fighting like that, with him, I think there's a pretty good chance its just making it worse. The leash is just a better tool for teaching respect then an ecollar in a lot of ways.
I agree that this physical fighting is counterproductive.

I agree. Thats why I got an e collar. To teach him, I ran through basic obedience with him in the yard and introduced the collar. Very light stim/vibrate used until he complied. He figured out that as soon as he started to do what I want it went away. All of a sudden recalls were fast, stays were better.
It should be said that I had to change the collar to soft dog mode. It defaults to normal. The amount of stim I use, I can barely fee when i put it in my hand. It's like half the power of one of those tens muscle device things.
So for the door aggression. I'd let him out, he'd turn, I'd say "go" and stim him. When he turned away from me I'd stop, if he turned back he got it again and another "go". He learned in 2 days. Now he takes a few steps outside, does a 180 looks at me, remembers does another 180 and then runs and jumps off the deck which is 5 stairs high. Then he goes into patrol mode and lets out about 2-3 good barks instead of 100.

Quick question, John?
Are you proceeding with the " collar desensitizing protocol" where you:
Put on & take off the E-Collar numerous times a day...
Swap-out various Different Collars many times a day...
Have him wear MULTIPLE COLLARS at once (Flat Buckle WITH Dominant Dog WITH Metal Prong WITH Remote Control collars)...
All so that your dog does NOT get "Collar-Wise" and learn to associate THE STIM with wearing his E-Collar, and thereby realize that he does NOT need to OBEY unless that particular Training Tool is on his neck

Most dogs figure out the collar switch over time & know when the live e-collar is on, in spite of all that you can do to try to fool them. The smart dogs figure it out pretty quickly.
A good overall working relationship with your dog, coupled with solid, consistent OB & leadership is the best overall answer to any behavior problems. E-collars are not the magic bullet...they are just another tool in the tool box.....just like a prong collar & dd collar.

Anne, while we All Agree with the above COMPLETELY, you are posting these remarks on Leerburg's E-COLLAR Forum called "Solving Behavioral Problems WITH REMOTE Collars"...
E-collars are...another TOOL in the tool box...just like a prong collar & dd collar.
So Right -- And as a TOOL the E-Collar has its Proper Use at the Proper Time in the Proper Way -- And that is what a Training Tool actually DOES ... It trains the dog to Obey VOICE Commands without needing constant or nagging or Useless Corrections
IMHO, there is nothing to be "ashamed of" if anyone finds the correct use of an e-collar extremely Helpful & Humane (or even like a "Magic Bullet" just about) while TRAINING a dog, especially & particularly some large/strong, high-drive Dominant & Aggressive pet that greatly benetis from "power steering" while Establishing PACK Structure in the home (SIGH).

My male is a HA dog & did the same kind of behavior that John's dog is doing. I can tell you that if I had put an e-collar on him & steamed him when he was in that state of mind, & conning full at me, he would have severely hurt me.
It may work on some dogs...but can be a serious mistake when the dog figures out he doesn't have the e-collar on without other controls in place.
Just trying to keep it real here.
I don.t deny that it can be a good tool, But in this situation.....are you going to have the dog wear an e-collar all the time in order to keep the dog in check?
I guess I hope it works for the long run for his dog.
I have & use e-collars on my dogs. All 4 of the GSDs that I've had. But they are as a back up when off my property & in 10 yrs have only had 5 occasions to have to use it. Even at that it was a 1x low stem. 2 of my dogs have been hard dogs. My female is a very very hard driven girl.
JMO for whatever it's worth. I'm out.
