Fury was a great one here also.
Another horse and a kid TV show that was really popular was "My Friend Flicka".
I recall it was a chestnut horse with a white blaze......maybe?!
Oh yes, we loved Flicka too.
Looks like you are right about her color:

That was SO GOOD! Watching it just now made me remember as if it was yesterday watching it on TV with my parents and my brother and all my sisters .... more than half a century ago!!
I love the threads here about dog movies and dog books. Whether they are reminders from long ago or info about something new -- whether they are cheering or heartbreaking or both -- they are always good threads.
Oh, my. When I said 1962, it didn't sound too bad to me, but when you said more than half a century ago, it makes me feel really ancient!
I, too, really enjoy these types of threads.
"Fury" and "My Friend Flicka" were also on my Saturday morning must-see TV list when I was a kid. For anyone looking for an uplifting horse movie, I can highly recommend "Secretariat" and "Seabiscuit." I also loved the 1994 version of "Black Beauty," though it did have some sad scenes, but like that "Lassie" TV clip I linked above, the ending was a happy tear-jerker.
I've definitely gotten a good list of books and movies to check out from this thread.

Ooooh, I got a new TV recently .... maybe I can find Secretariat and/or Seabiscuit, both of which I always meant to see! And what was the one about a group of non-rich working people who bought or raised a winning race horse? That one too. Maybe on Netflix or Amazon.
Yes, Fury might've been my top fave in the olden days. lol
I remember when I saw Mission Impossible (after Peter Graves joined the show as Jim Phelps, replacing Steven Hill as Dan Briggs), I immediately thought "Whoa! Fury's father!"

I had not realized Peter Graves starred in "Fury." Your memory for the names of actors and the parts they played is waaaay better than mine! I did look on YouTube, though, and there are plenty of "Fury" episodes. I believed you, but I just wanted to refresh my memory. Yep, Peter Graves!
I think I have heard of the film "Dark Horse," but I have not seen it. I'll add it to my list, too.

I'm a long-time trivia fan. Keeps my brain from getting cluttered up with actual useful
knowledge.
For example, it's so important to know things like : Peter Graves and James Arness are real-life brothers. LOL
Anyway, I searched Netflix and Amazon movies for Dark Horse, but I ended up finding it on regular TV (Comcast's "On Demand"), free! In fact, I'm about 20 minutes in. (It's a beautiful day and I have a long list of "to do" stuff, but somehow this racehorse movie-documentary seemed much more important. )
It's really good -- I'm totally enjoying it.

BTW, turns out that there are lots of things called "Dark Horse" and "The Dark Horse." It took me a while to figure that out (my brain being all filled up with trivia), so I'm passing it along that it's this one : http://www.avclub.com/review/crowds-should-cheer-uplifting-sports-doc-dark-hors-236113

I did not know that!!!!! I like trivia myself -- I'm a big "Jeopardy!" fan, and I used to love playing Trivial Pursuit -- but I think you would put me to shame any day.
Hey, Candi, are you still around? Thanks for starting this thread. I hope we haven't hijacked it too bad.

My table won at trivia when I challenged the "judges" on a breed of dog.
Even though the info they had backed them up I insisted they look it up.
They did and I was correct so that one point put us past a tie.
Don't think the other team was happy about that.
The dog?
They showed a Picture of a red Tibetan Mastiff and said it was a Chow.
DUH!!!
