I was running around with the camera and the GAP logo sweatshirt (see, I 'fessed up...:-) ).

If you were there early for obedience each morning, I was sitting up on the higher bleachers by myself, shivering, cussing, and huddling over the steam coming off my coffee.

There were a bunch of people doing that at both fields, and probably tracking as well.
Question for you: in protection, if a dog's initial bite is a "canine" bite, then does a quick re-grip to a full bite (this was on a back transport), should the dog get the critique of a full bite throughout the routine?

From what I could tell, if the dog got a poor initial grip but VERY QUICKLY, the moment the helper set him down on the ground, went to a full grip, the judge didn't seem to be deducting points.

Sue I think your question has a few answers. In DVG, you most likley will not get banged for it at all, at any level.
In USA, in a club trial alot of judges will not bang a team for biting as you describe. They may mention it, but as far as a big point loss, it is not normally a pointable issue for most judges on the club level. In a big trial, it is for the most part, going to depend on the judge. Some judges will require a full bite right from the start to earn full points; others if it is a very fast re-bite to full, then you may get full points for grips.
It also depends on who is showing the dog. Little thigs like what you describe are allowed to sly past the judges eyes, for certain folks in a big event, and sometimes the judge has a second or two of blindness.

in big events like the nationals and the worlds, where there is a different judge for each portion of the trial, does the judge know what the competitors recieved in other events? in other words, does the judge in protection know which competitors have a chance at winning if they recieve a certain score in that routine?

Hello all,
This is my first post here.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to be at the Nationals.I think it is great so many were able to compete and do well.
On the same token, without SUPER decoy work this wouldn't be possible..
Congrats to Doug Wendling and James Laney for an excellent job! Also "kudos" must go to Armin Winkler who coached both James and Doug a proven artist in protection training as it shows by his protege...
Take Care,
Daren
