I agree with Matt if you have seen the CCL requirements you will know that it does not take a competent gun owner to past it. Some people don't agree with the conceal carry law beleiving its states only a right already given to protect ourselves. Though there are a lot of competent people with CCL that want to abid by the law. What makes these people training and education make them good with their weapon or dogs not the CCL/basic requirements.
There use to be a news clip, in the local gun store of a woman that bought a gun, loaded it stuck in here nightstand. She was raped and shot with her own gun. It was a auto loader the Prep seeing she didn't know how to operate it took it and rack the slide and shot her after he raped her.
A PPT dog would have been better if she not gonna train with the weapon. Still somebody has to keep the dog training sharp. This is one of the advantages of a PPT dog, it does most of the work she would have had more time to get it together and he would have less time to evaluate her compentence. A barking dog will keep most intruders from entering through your window most time.
Will R, I don't see why you are defending the general public, you are not them! Do you know any of them dog fearing but wanting dog protection. Crossed between the Reality and TV.
Don,
I know I'm not the typical public, and I'm in complete agreement with ya'll about the responsibility of owning a PPD - it's a lot of work, more than nearly anyone can shoulder without alot of training. To have/own a PPD without being a very good dog handler is an accident waiting to happen. And I think good trainers or breeders need to screen potential owners for their ability to handle dogs, especially if they're selling upper end dogs that require a strong/experienced handler to control them ( Todd Gaster's screening process would be a fine example of this )
But firearms are a different story for an entirely different reason. There are tons of people that carelessly handle firearms and cause injury/deaths to themselves or those around them. That's a tragedy......but the need for firearms outweights the downside.
Ultimately, firearms are about freedom. They give you the ability to fight a tyrant, and so to only allow those that Matt Moore would approve for firearm ownership is a step towards the gulag for us all.
What would be the next step? IQ tests for driver's permits? Dumb folks likely cause more car accidents, I'll wager.
