I worked for a veternarian in a posh retirement community. Just like you had to solve the problem of dogs being frozen together, I had to calm a hysterical woman because another dog was stealing HER dog. (get the picture)? My favorite is ... two elderly, blue haired ladies entered the office, one carrying a little toy poodle. I began taking information from the owner, and asked why they were in the office that day. The owner said "he needs his shots, and also, he is scooting on the floor, so he must have worms" Only halfway looking up from writing, I said, "well, maybe it is not worms - maybe its his anal sacs". The two ladies heads snapped toward each other, eyes bugged, mouths dropped open...and the sweet little elderly owner said to me, " oh, no, it couldn't possibly be anal sex, he's only 6 months old"!

Oh....I've got one!
I walk my 6.5 month dobie puppy, male, at lunch all the time in a "poor" industrial neighborhood (I'm fortunate enough to work in this neighborhood  ). Anyway, almost daily I get from someone loafing on their porch...hey...isn't he kinda skinny for a Rottweiler? The funny thing is he is actually big for a Doberman at 69lbs!

I work at a vet clinic and we have a million of these. My absolute favorite comes from one of the vets who worked in rural NC.
They get a call from a guy with a question about his Rockwilder(that is the common name down here among the less educated). Seems she got tied up with some mutt. His question is ....... Will she still be a purebred Rockwilder?
Skipper
As far as misidentfing breeds. If I had a dollar for everytime my sheltie is call a border collie I could buy a border collie. She is sable, too boot, not even a bi-black. Not to mention how often she is called a miniture collie.

Yes, tell me about people misdentifying breeds. Just last night I took my dog to the park. I sat down at a picnic table by a tree. Well, a chipmunk went up the tree and my dog spent like 15 minutes yapping at it. A young couple was walkin by and I heard the guy say to the girl "see I told you rottwielers were viscious" and I said he's not a Rottweiler he's Doberman. He sais "well he's not a purebred is he? I mean the markings are just like a Rottweilers"  I wanted to ask him what kind of marking do "purebred" dobermans have.

This is a perfect example of what I would call a good General Conversation thread. (If I had too. . .) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, this thread has really kept me in stitches... and it's been COMPLETELY ABOUT DOGS!
God knows how long we could run this if we wanted to. Dog owners hear new "stupid things" nearly every day.
BTW all of you who want to donate to the "Pro-Shiznit-Slapping Group" can make out your checks directly to me. I will ensure that the money is funneled to the "proper channels." <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

DFrost mentioned a great one. Narc dogs are trained by getting them addicted to drugs.
I got in a knock down screaming fight with some nasty *unt at a AKC GSDCA conformation show about just this topic. It started off with me asking if her dogs had any working titles in their pedigrees. . .
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I guess I kinda provoked her. . . . <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
I get fired up about working GSDs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Uh... really? I couldn't tell, Robert--thought you were more of a show dog guy!

Well, according to the population at large I own a giant scottie. Or they ask if she is a bouvier, I could kinda understand that if she had a thick coat, but she has a german coat and it is short.
I get asked what the shepherd is all the time. Since he is a black/black and tan they think he must be part something else. I took advantage of this when the insurance agent showed up at my doorstep.
Ins Guy: what kind of dog is that?
Me: Not really sure, got him at the pound <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
Oh, and get this, he was dumped in the country.
