Hey...I just saw a commercial on MTV about some kid smoking pot & then trying to out run a dog & I think it's a Dutch Shepherd!
i saw that commercial a few nights ago. i thought it was a mal...the one where the dog starts off sitting on a pallet and then the kid decides to run from the junkyard dog while high on pot. don't hold me to it, but i thought it was a mal. not much difference in holland between them tho..
You are probably right, I was confused by the brindling. I'm a GSD person.
If it was a brindle dog then it's not a mal.... even if it had mal crosses as parents, the brindle mal would be called a dutch shepherd cross Boy why did they do all this whacky crap with the crosses, it gets everyone so confused as to what a dutch shepherd really is.... I can already imagine the arguments I'm gonna have with people when I walk my dog... "its a brindle german shepherd cross!" ... "no, its a dutch shepherd"... "no I worked for the AKC for 20 years and never heard of such a thing, its some type of german shepherd cross"... "no, agh! go away".
Maybe they don't mind what the dog looks like as long as it works okay. And from what I understand from this forum that is not always what the AKC has in mind.
lol I know I know, I'm just kidding. It just makes it difficult to explain to people what a dutch shepherd is, and what the differences are between a dutch shepherd and a dutch shepherd cross, n why you can have mal's in a dutch shepherd litter even though they are supposed to be seperate breeds etc etc, the dogs are awesome, otherwise I wouldn't be getting one But it gets annoying having to explain what a dutchie is because nobody outside of working dog circles in the US, and most people in working dog circles here have a clue what they are Which is kind of the added appeal to me too.
I could say the same about german shepherds though, with all the different lines, it gets tedious trying to explain to your neighbor with an american line GSD why your GSD looks so different to their GSD.
I "tivoed" it & watched it a couple times the dog WAS brindled.
that settles that debate then. i only saw it one time.
mike, it is an anti-marijuana commercial. someone said they saw it on MTV, but i never watch that channel, so i know it's not an MTV specific commercial. then again, maybe susan can correct me on that. susan, who made the commercial? it should say at the end. that might help mike find it on the internet...
