I couldn't agree more - if the prices of exotic cats like panthers came down and they became more accessible, these assholes would probably switch to them instead!

I'm nowhere near as informed as a lot of the people are on this forum but I do think that other breeds just would NOT do the same damage as the pitbull, even if they were in the exact same hands as those destroying the pitbull today.
I can think of a few that could! I think the media hypes up pitbull attacks so much that we start to think that they're much more dangerous than other breeds, but think about the lab in France that tore its owners face off, or the neo mastiffs that killed a girl last year. Did they not do just as much damage?
Obviously a pitbull attack is more dangerous than a miniature schnauzer attack, but I think that most larger breeds can do a pretty scary amount of damage.

I could just picture a big cat, restrained with a rusty chain to a dilipidated dog house, feeding on rats from the garbage strewn alley behind your local drug dealers house. Just beautiful!!!

I read somewhere that after they banned pitbulls in France, drug dealers started trying to use barbary apes.

Too true Heather - I remember meeting an obedience trainer from Texas that lost the use of 60% of her arm and hand due to a golden retriever that mauled her with the owner saying the whole time about how friendly and sweet he is. The golden retriever attack never got news coverage though. Wrong breed for good ratings, I guess.

Since perception is obviously very important to certain elements, the desire to own a pit will only continue to grow. From the perspective of a law enforcement officer, if it's a drug house and they have a dog, it's going to be a pit. That's just the way it is.

That's almost funny!

Yes, but the lady w/the lab...she was unconscious when it occurred. If you let a cat attack an inanimate "object" the damage would also be horrific.
I'm not suggesting pitbulls are dangerous and no other dog is. I guess I'm questioning all that I hear regarding pit bulls having a different bite? Are breaker bars meant for pits because once they bite, they don't let go?
I realize a big dog can kill any human being but isn't the pitbull known to have a more powerful jaw, an unrelenting bite, the whole nine yards?

There's some debate about the more powerful jaw thing. A researcher by the name Dr. Barr measured the bite force of a GSD, rottweiler and APBT, and the APBT had the lowest score of the three. Granted, I found that study on an anti-BSL site.
As for unrelenting bite, if you mean "lock jaw", a professor at Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine is on a few sites saying there's no anatomical structure that would make such a thing possible. If you meant that they're just unrelenting in terms of how hard they come at you - that's just a matter of drive, isn't it? There are a lot of high drive dogs out there and their drive gets directed in different ways, some dangerous, some not.
I don't claim to be the expert on pit bulls or anything, and maybe you're right and they are more dangerous. I didn't think you meant to say that they're the only breed capable of great harm. I just dug up some studies that I thought I'd share.
