It's just a sad situation.
I looked at the website and the adult dogs seemed to be nice dogs from what I could tell. I guess you can be pairing some nice dogs and still be a low quality breeder.
I don't think I'd want a pup at six weeks. I've fostered some litters of kittens and they just seem to benefit so much from spending an extra week or two with their sibs. If dogs are at all similar I'd wait for the pup.
I also don't get sending it off for housetraining and all. Likely it will just have to relearn when it makes the switch. I guess VP families just can't be bothered to do the dirty work of dog ownership.
As far as Obama's dog, I am hoping and praying he has someone researching who comes across this site. The last thing dogs and rescues need is the most important guy in the US lending credibility to puppy mill/backyard breeder dogs.
I suspect I am allergic to my Jess, cats and horses. I just live with it. sometimes I feel like there are so many whiners around... (Of course, it's different if the allergies are dangerous like a friend who can't breathe when she has a reaction.)
Wow, I had a lot to say.

Well, as for the six weeks, I got my first and best GSD ever at six weeks. I'd do it again in a heart beat. I had absolutely no problems with him being any mouthier than my current pup whom I got at 11 wks, much less in fact, and no dog aggressive problems. He was house trained MUCH easier and seemed to learn any command much faster. That may or may not be an age thing, but IMHO getting a pup at six weeks was a plus for me.
He was with me learning and being socialized, instead of in a kennel walking the fence. Just my opinion.

He was with me learning and being socialized, instead of in a kennel walking the fence. Just my opinion. No breeder should leave a six week old "walking the fence." Anyone who does this should not be breeding, IMO.
My pups played with each other, learned doggie social skills, were trained by the adult dogs, and socialized by me (introduced to all kinds of new things, car rides, collars, crates) before going to new homes. I honestly don't even think they were eating solid food completely. They did a lot of things but walking a fence was not one of them.
If you think puppies should be taken at six weeks because at the breeder they will only languish in a kennel with nothing to do, you haven't met a good breeder (or rescuer)!

Many of the comments on that site made me so sad. Many of the people seemed to think that by purchasing a pet store or puppy farm dog, you are "Rescuing" it.
Yeah, folks. Just keep "rescuing" and they'll just make more... since you have now created Demand.
Sigh.

Yeah, it is quite the double edge sword isn't it? I also read comments on people wanting him to return the pup. I don't agree with that. The man made a huge mistake, but at this point, let it be. Just make sure that dirty breeder gets shut down.

I too am allergic to dogs and cats, but I love them so much that I choose to deal with it. I can brush my dogs and cats out, make sure that the litter box is cleaned regularly and I had allergy shots for 4.5 years (which did seem to help with it). I wouldn't give up my pets even for an allergy.
And, the funny thing is, my mom is one of those people that thought that she was "rescuing" a poodle(she's allergic to dogs too) from a puppy-mill, I think she didn't want to spend a lot on a poodle pup(only $200 for him). I told her not to, but she obviously didn't listen.
I would love to rescue dogs from shelters, but I don't have the time, money, energy, or space to do so. I've always had a soft spot for them, my hubby wanted only "purebred" dogs, and I couldn't win that arguement.

My mom's Standard Poodle was from a backyard breeder (although she and I will argue to the death about it). She thinks that AKC papers proves the breeder is "legitimate" and not a BYB.
She would never knowingly hurt an animal, she loves animals and I get my love of animals from my mom- but she is naive, stubborn and pigheaded (I get the pigheadedness from her too, LOL).
Her most recent, literally impulse purchase was a Bichon/Poodle mix from a PET STORE.
She went into the pet store to buy food for the Poodle, and came out with a friggin' puppy, because he's soooo cute.
Geez. When I finally showed her where pet store puppies come from, she was upset, and she vows never to buy from a pet store again.
Now she is miserable, because she under-estimated how much of a pain little dogs are. (He's clearly a Bichon-TOY Poodle mix).
I'm more allergic to her Poodle and Poodle mix, than I am my own GSD- I've built up a semi-tolerance to my own pup. Her dogs make me miserable (but I do love 'em, darnit.)

We, the people, reject Vice-President elect Biden's nomination for the Second Dog! The time is now for the Biden family to admit their mistake and make the right choice -- Adopt, don't shop!
Yes, give the dog up, good idea...
