I was thinking earlier that although the man said he was almost bit, I'd love to know if this was the truth. It is obviously something someone would say if they were trying to defend something they did...
As always, it is all in the details and we may not get them from this event. It sounds like it all happened very fast.
One thing I do know - a dog on a leash in a dog park is going to be more on the defensive when put in this situation than a dog off leash. JMHO.
Dave - the video in discussion is not related to this particular thread but is referring to a training video posted yesterday about an awesome Mal and her trainer working under distraction in a dog park.
There are breeding kennels, boarding kennels, vet kennels, PPD kennels, kennels for police dogs, kennels with play groups...fights break out all the time, and they don't pop off the pooch with a bullet. If you enter a dog park, you should at least have know how in breaking up a fight!
The whole idea of 'dog parks' still baffles me. Why would anyone willingly give up control of the situation? Lord knows, we face enough uncontrolled scenarios as it is. Why ask for it?
And to those that think they can opine comparing anywhere in the US. with police or martial law states; just the fact you tried to say it shows exactly what you know about it.

Almost every dog park I've ever been by have written statements on the gate that people should not try to break up dog fights. Most I know would kick you out for liability purposes if you did even if it was a safe break up that time.
There is a big difference between trained staff at kennels and the average idiot at a dog park.
Any person may kill any dog which he sees in the act of pursuing, attacking, wounding or killing any poultry or livestock, or attacking human beings whether or not such dog bears the proper license tag required by these provisions. There shall be no liability on such persons in damages or otherwise for such killing.
If a dog is in a light "tussel" in a dog park, not attacking brutally - would you kill it without trying other measures first?
We don't know all the details and that sucks. But I sure wish other measures had been used prior to shooting the dog. If the Federal Agent had been unarmed, he would have solved the situation in another manner.

And there are no liability factors, and you won't get kicked out for using a firearm? That same idiot in the dog park is carrying a gun!
