malinois malinois malinois! I can never be without ever again. My dogs a genius, theres nothing she cant do! And I don't know how I ended up with the cutest malinois in the entire world that ever lived and will live but alas I did. Shes everything ive ever wanted in a dog. im not even exaggerating At the exact same time shes truly a horrid rotten doggy !!
My heart dog of my childhood from 10-last year was a springer spaniel border collie cross. That lassie kind of good all around family dog. Just perfect. Never did anything wrong miss him everyday. A loyal, friendly boy who was the best friend a kid could ever hope for. id give anything to see him again and hug him as I cry, he was so good for that. My first dog that was soley mine and will forever hold a special place in my heart.
My dutch shepherd was a great active very friendly, med drive dog. Always smiling until cancer suddenly and unexpectedly took her too soon from us. Miss her enthusiasm and sweet demeanor.
our cane corso is so mild mannered and easy now in her old age, not so much as a puppy, she was difficult. Not overly bright and her clumsiness is entertaining. Such a sucky baby of a mushy dog. Great for cuddling.
Grew up with shepherds, did dog sledding so love huskies. coz of my first dog I love spaniels, would love to own an akita and a terrier, amongst many others.
old age means realizing you will never own all the dogs you wanted to- unknown |

Chow/English Setter cross: 35lbs, looked like a little black golden retriever. VERY smart, soft shy dog, independent, very intelligent, sharp tho...AWESOME in agility, could accelerate to top speed in a very short distance, turn on a dime, great jumper, graceful, catlike agility, great manners, very very sweet, easy to housetrain.
Dutch Shepherd= Love/hate
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog. |

Bob,
Sheilas don't get into trouble. Look it up in the Urban Dictionary lol. As a matter of fact I'm the most bomb a** chick you'll ever meet. What the heck does that even mean?
The reality is; a night out petting someone else's dog would earn me the accusatory sniff.... and the disgusted look that I was nothing more than a Sheila.(not one of the nice definitions of my name)

Peter,
You are brilliant! Yes. I am the muse for all those glowing definitions of Sheila. I believe my husband wrote them especially about my cooking. Of course the haters threw in some negative ones. Just ignore those. I am perfect. And there is never any disagreements online when I'm here. It's all butterflies and Patriots defeating the Bengals.
And in case anyone is unsure; this is "tongue in cheek"..... well maybe except the part about me being perfect.

We love Goldens. Our kids grew up with them in the house and they were like another brother or sister to them. Kasey has been that once in a lifetime dog that just knows what people need. He thinks he's a lap dog at 90 lbs. He lays with the grandbabies on the living room floor, plays ball with the older ones, and even went with me to physical therapy and comforted the people in the room who were in pain. He's never destroyed anything in the house and is so easy to train - mostly because of goldfish crackers!
My only complaint with Goldens is the breeders. Both our last 2 dogs have had environmental allergies. I asked a million questions of the breeders, and was very picky but still ended up with allergy dogs. The derma vet says it is a problem that continues to get bigger and bigger with ALL breeds - she says some breeds are worse than others for sure, but she can't think of one breed that she doesn't get anymore. Not sure it's possible to know ahead of time now...

can anyone rationally dispute the Labrador in terms of versatility and proven performance across multiple venues over the longest time in the most countries?
That's what I thought when I was younger, so that's all I owned for years. Then, I rescued a couple of Weenie mixes from the side of the road and ended up keeping one. "Frog" was the best dog I have owned (up until my last two; experience has taught me what I'm really looking for, and circumstances have dictated that I got the last two that I've had). Frog was an extremely sweet dog with no bad habits. His name was Frog because he would leap four feet straight up in the air trying to get your attention, but never really jump ON you. He visited all of the neighbors, and everyone seemed to know him. He had no other qualifications outside of making you feel like you were the greatest human ever.
Over the years, my affection for Labs waned. Sure, they were great workers, good companions, and easy to train, but I just never developed THAT bond with any of the ones I owned.
My last two dogs, a small hound mix that I had for 10 years and my current GSD, were gotten to fill specific roles, but ended up forming very special bonds with me. Tera, the hound mix, was a dog that I got to be my son's playmate when I was raising him alone. Then she was the only one left at home when the nest became empty. I got Sadie to guard my property while I work at night. She refused to be left outside at night alone, but she grew on me quicker than any dog I've ever had. She loves learning and working, as well as any other activity that I will do with her. I normally don't do indoor dogs, but we are too close for me to stick her out in the yard.

When I was a kid, one of our Standard Dachshund bitches would "lie-in-wait" on top of a stile over the backyard fence -- She would leap four feet straight up in the air and CATCH BIRDS ON-THE-WING ... We dog-proofed that stile to Save those Birdies !!!
I normally don't do indoor dogs, but we are too close for me to stick her out in the yard.
Well, it's good to know that you OVERCAME such a "learning disability" Just ribbin' ya, Duane, LOL.

Candi;
I thought purebreds were Dachshunds and mixes were Weenie Dogs?
ETA: I don't mind having her in the house, as long as she listens when I say, "Bitch. Go lay down!".
