My table won at trivia when I challenged the "judges" on a breed of dog.
Even though the info they had backed them up I insisted they look it up.
They did and I was correct so that one point put us past a tie.
Don't think the other team was happy about that.
The dog?
They showed a Picture of a red Tibetan Mastiff and said it was a Chow.
DUH!!!
Cool!
Was there a prize for the winning table?

I recall it was about 50 bucks for each round for the six of us at the table.
The big winner was at the end of the night and that was 500.
It's for Parkensons disease and we go there annually with my brother who has parkensons.
All the sibs and spouses go so we take up a few tables.

ALWAYS a good time when the sibs get together.
We try and do something every 5-6 weeks.

That is so nice that you do that. Bob, I know you know this, but you are so lucky to have not just a big family, but a close family.

Lassie in 62?
Didn't that air in the early or mid 50s?
I'll have to look up "The Art of Racing in the rain".
Speaking of "Lassie Come Home" does anyone remember "Gypsy Colt"?
I remember being pretty small at the drive - in so probably in the early 50s.
It was pretty much a horse version of "Lassie Come home".
Another horse one was "Champion the Wonder Horse" about Gene Autry's horse Champion.
There were 2 casts of the original "Lassie" on TV -- The first had Tommy Rettig as Jeff ... The "continuation" had Jon Provost as Timmy (I met him MANY decades later at the big Golden Gate Kennel Club benched show in San Francisco, where he was selling his memoir, and he still looked exactly the same!) Then later on, there was some re-make, but it aired AFTER my time, LOL.
I was in Nursery School or Kindergarten when we went to see, "Gypsy PONY", in the theater -- I have remembered it all my life: my recollection is that he was a black horse who was lost in canyon country ... A tear-jerker for sure, especially to an impressionable young animal-lover) !!! Been searching for a COPY of that movie ever since, but never have found one, Bob
And of course, I also loved watching ALL the "kiddie" horse TV shows every Saturday as well, along with Rin-Tin-Tin, and the various "Mickey Mouse Club" series with dogs & horses in them, such as White Shadow about a white GSD, and The Adventures of Spin & Marty featuring a Golden Palomino and other horses.

That was SO GOOD! Watching it just now made me remember as if it was yesterday watching it on TV with my parents and my brother and all my sisters .... more than half a century ago!!
I love the threads here about dog movies and dog books. Whether they are reminders from long ago or info about something new -- whether they are cheering or heartbreaking or both -- they are always good threads.
Oh, my. When I said 1962, it didn't sound too bad to me, but when you said more than half a century ago, it makes me feel really ancient!
I, too, really enjoy these types of threads.
"Fury" and "My Friend Flicka" were also on my Saturday morning must-see TV list when I was a kid. For anyone looking for an uplifting horse movie, I can highly recommend "Secretariat" and "Seabiscuit." I also loved the 1994 version of "Black Beauty," though it did have some sad scenes, but like that "Lassie" TV clip I linked above, the ending was a happy tear-jerker.
I've definitely gotten a good list of books and movies to check out from this thread.
Ooooh, I got a new TV recently .... maybe I can find Secretariat and/or Seabiscuit, both of which I always meant to see! And what was the one about a group of non-rich working people who bought or raised a winning race horse? That one too. Maybe on Netflix or Amazon.
Yes, Fury might've been my top fave in the olden days. lol
I remember when I saw Mission Impossible (after Peter Graves joined the show as Jim Phelps, replacing Steven Hill as Dan Briggs), I immediately thought "Whoa! Fury's father!"
I own copies of "Sea Biscuit" and "Secretariat", which I shamelessly watch all the time & cry my eyes out at every viewing !!! Very different films, very different horses, very different people & times, BOTH EXCELLENT MOVIES
(I was raised 5 minutes away from Tanforan Race Track, which was Sea Biscuit's home course, although he ran well before I was ever born -- It has long-since been converted into a shopping mall of the same name, but they at least un-earthed & brought up the historic Bronze SCULPTURE of Sea Biscuit from Santa Anita race course down in Southern California, where it now graces the main entrance & is greatly revered by folks in the know...)
