Well, yeah, too much of anything is detrimental. Many people avoid garlic because of what you said, but that is really a shame as garlic is amazing for the dog's immune system. As with anything, there will be dogs who cannot stomach the stuff, which is why you should check the kinetic energy before giving it.
In short, garlic is good for the spleen, stomach and lungs. It aids digestion, kills parasites. It boosts the immune system and reinforces the stomach. In general, a clove for a 60 lb dog is what is recommended, but all dogs are individuals.
Olive oil is an oil and thus the tick cannot breathe. It will retreat to try to get air. It is then that you grab it with tweezers. The tweezers are because if the tick knows you are trying to grab it, it will grab the dog even more fiercely.
Haven't tried those products but have heard they were good. Also heard that Springtime Inc Bug off Garlic is good as well.
I've been using Interceptor every 6 weeks May through Dec for the last few years, but am looking into homeopathic alternatives for next mosquito season. I haven't seen a single tick or flea since switching to raw and no preventives four years ago. I recently started adding Garlic gelcaps in the spring and summer.
Originally posted by Lauren Woods: Heartgard (regular or plus) can be given up to every 45 days. Interceptor can be given up to every 60 days, but with both of these you have to be SURE not to give it any later. Can you explain this difference please?
I use Interceptor for Heartworm Control on my dogs. (It also prevents from getting other types of worms). It is very safe to use.
