You were not referring to Ellen were you? I know for a fact that she does not believe in that stuff.
Now Ellen that was your accolades this is your correction. LOL. I agree with you to a degree. Training is an art. But have a conversation with Kevin on this art and I guarantee you that you will agree it is a science as well.
Paul:
I have recommended this book many times but I cannot recommend it enough. Please buy a book called Purely Positive it is a must for all dog trainers. It does not go into details on fight drive or hard proofing/corrections. But you see things in a hole new light afterwards. And it is not expensive.
No, I was not referring to Ellen--who knows me well enough to kick my teeth down my throat if she thought I was!

Vince,
Thanks for your accolade but I have to defend my self just a little regarding your correction. I believe I said "IMO training and working with dogs is MORE OF an art than a science." I wouldn't argue the point that there is a scientific side to training. But even in the world of science, terms can be somewhat fluid.
The point I was trying to make was that if you ask 10 different trainers their definition of something like "drive", chances are good that you may get 10 slightly different answers -- but slight enough to spend hours discussing the difference . I remember an old cartoon with the caption -- "the only thing two trainers can agree on is what the third trainer is doing wrong".
I think the easiest & safest way to discuss training issues where certain terms may be slightly different to different people is to define your terms when you use them. That way at least everyone is on the same page whether they agree with your definition or not. -JMO.
