Nice! lol. Hmmm...my 1 year old sable just might mature and grow that saddle any day now. lol. Ive dealt with the wolf hybrid crap alot. People around here just cant seem to grasp the idea that shepherds dont have to be black and tan. I took my dog to a big festival in the area over the summer. As he walked around in his "Pet me, im friendly" vest, a women stoped me and said "You know, they used to nopt allow vicious dogs in here. Im surprised that they let you and that you even brought him". I just looked at her and said "Lady, he's never bitten anyone, but I wouldnt mind if you were to be his first". She just looked all horrified and walked away, but the crowd around us had a darn good laugh. BTW, this whole conversation happened as a 6 year old girl that had wandered up was getting licked in the face by my 'vicious' dog, who was a whole 6 months old at the time.

Ian, interesting slide show but why do all those dog look like their doubled over with stomach cramps? OOPS!....Never mind. Those are show dogs. I just couldn't resist that!
Well Bob, I'll tell you. I think they look half sick cause they just had a look at the work that the working lines have to do and they just couldnt stand the thought of it! lol. It's probably a good thing that there weren't working line dogs there, they would have laughed themselves to death when they met their fancy cousins.

Cat the other White Meat!
hah...that's been Barra's unofficial motto for ages. My response to the "does she like cats" question is usually "yes, she loves them...with barbeque sauce."

Sorry, it means state the case in favour for the show GSD's - reply with something against the working GSD.

I've been reading this thread and laughing. One of my dogs is a PBGV (Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen). People really murder that one. She is so scruffy most people think she is a mutt so I just say yes she is.

My parents' neighbors have a PBGV. I saw it one day when I was visiting, and I was excited to finally see one in real life. I went up to the owner and asked, just to be sure, if it was indeed a PBGV, and I think she popped out a brick out of surprise that someone knew what PBGVs were. They're much larger (well, bulker) in person than on TV and in the books.
Another time I was out walking downtown in Milwaukee and a lady was out with a big, fluffy black dog, looked like a Belgian shepherd. So I asked if it was a Groenendael, and she was all "OMG YESSSSS!"
Even if 99% the answers are wrong, it's always cool to have someone come up to you and identify the breed correctly.
If anyone ever came up to me and said "That's a so-and-so and I know it's a so-and-so because I grew up with them so it must be a so-and-so" and the dog I have is actually completely different, I think I'd just snicker, shake my head, and walk off mumbling something like "these people" just to shave some of their pride down

i always got a kick out of it when, when i was in college and had a pick-up, with my Tessa (a sable GSD-X), in the front seat, and a BIG sign in the back window that said (per Bill Koehler, BTW) "Warning--Guard Dog"--the people that would approach and ask if she would bite.
they were usually coming out of the same bar i was (at that time of my life , and i would say "yeah--but not hard".
amazing how they would just either 1)continue on down the sidewalk, or 2) actually approach, to find that she DID NOT allow strangers to approach!!!
i wouldn't do it like that now (liability insurance and all), but at the time it was like "THERE'S Your Sign" --can you READ????? hello??
i still have people asking me what breed my fawn Dobie is. he's cropped and docked, and i think "where have YOU lived all your life?..." never seen a picture of a Dobe??? but maybe not, out here in Nebraska, where all they seem to have are Labs...

Alright, I've gotta add to this thread.
I had someone once describe my red Heeler as a "miniature golden german shepherd." And I can't even count how many times people asked me if he was a dingo. All I want to say is "just be careful, he might eat your baby."
