QUOTE: Peanut allergy is one of the most common, serious and potentially fatal food allergies. It is an immune response (involving the IgE antibodies) to peanut protein, causing the release of histamine chemicals in the body which result in a host of symptoms. Anaphylaxis is a severe IgE antibody triggered reaction which requires urgent medical attention and the administration of epinephrine to stop the reaction.END at http://www.foodallergyinitiative.org/section_home.cfm?section_id=3&sub_section_id=1

You still seem to be stuck on the idea that allergies have to be to proteins.....

If you would really like to learn about food allergies and how to deal with them from a scientific point of view, check out the k9kitchen site. It's the only site out there that actually deals in facts and numbers and not hearsay.
Well, I finally got a chance to join and do some reading.
Quoting the site owner: "The most common allergies are to protein in meats and grains. "
And quoting a mod:
"Allergies are a reaction to the protein in a food."
I imagine I will find other opinions, but I went straight to posts by the mods and the owner of the site.
I'm not posting this to be argumentative; I'm posting it so readers here are not left confused, maybe thinking that other authoritative sources disagree with the posts here that point out that most canine food allergies are to a protein, whether in a grain, a meat, dairy, or other protein source.
