time by himself on the lead/run? im not sure, because that = he can do what he likes (mark, run around, etc)
The point of the base groundwork is that EVERYthing important comes from you. if he has to get fed-you give it to him, he gets water-you give it to him, he needs to potty- you let him. this makes it undeniable for him that you are the god of the universe he's in. so in the future if you say "hey, no barking" he buttons it up because, after all, your god
Let me add that dogs dont mind that; its how they work, if you dont do it, he will. if he was in a pack ONE of the dogs would be in charge telling everybody else what they could do.
(actually, its a very pleasing situation for the human ego  )
I have shortened his long line, to so he can only get to sit in his kennel, and get outside to drink n if he must go potty., its only just long enough for that.
And i have moved things around in my bedroom, so he has a corner and he will be tied to that space, also just long enough to reach his water. and i will control his movements and needs etc
Ok, Sarah, I have to interject a couple of things here. Please be careful with the line in the backyard. You said you shortened it "so he can only get to sit in his kennel". I hope you don't mean that literally. He needs to be able to lay down. I hate to assume you meant "lay down" when you wrote "sit".
Secondly, I wouldn't tie him to anything in your bedroom. He could choke to death when you're not there with him, RIGHT there with him. Dogs move around a lot, they turn one way, turn the other; a tied dog left unattended in a room with the door shut is a fatality waiting to happen. Even if you're sleeping, you may not wake up because if he's choking, the sounds he'll make may not be loud enough to wake you.
I slept through an earthquake hehe, a strong one. No this kennel is very big and he can be in and out and lie outside in front of it if he needs to, and when im in my bedroom he will be with me but otherwise outside.
And sleeping doesnt reall matter if he not tied up. he stays in his bed anyway. or i could even put something in front of it so he cant move about around the whole room.
