Speaking to the ahhhh moment, yes. It was wonderful to just BE with her for the first time. I think the honesty you have with a dog stems from the fact that you can not lie to them. They are experts in body language and non-verbal communication. You HAVE to be honest with them, and it's not in their nature to be deceitful. They just Are who they Are, and that allows us to have a relationship with them that is seldom possible with another person.

These experiences are super interesting --- to dog folks, to folks who have family in the service --- all we civilians ever hear about re- the war is little snippets that tell us nothing. We want to hear the story, the "day in the life".
Tanith: When we first got in country, the terrain was a challenge for both of us, but through lots of play and miles on the road, we got in shape. Fama's pads were little bricks after about a month. I took a good supply of toys with me, and the generous people that support soldiers through anysoldier.com and project k.i.t.t sent us plenty more.
David: she had her own treadmill in the gym, and would go to it off leash and wait for me to start it. I could go work out or run with her; it never mattered. She really enjoyed it, and it never hurt that we had a big tug party afterwards either.
