DITTO on what Connie stated. You want your dog to totally understand the marker & be on board before you actually start to train New or retrain old commands.
You will also find that having a beginning & ending word or phrase to start & end a training session will be very helpful. You will find that when you indicate that it is time to train...your dog will start offering behaviors to you. It is a lot of fun to see you dog so happy & eager to learn & be so on board with the whole training idea. Very different than just a dog excited to train. You will see the difference.
