I'm a long-time trivia fan. Keeps my brain from getting cluttered up with actual useful
knowledge.
For example, it's so important to know things like : Peter Graves and James Arness are real-life brothers. LOL
I did not know that!!!!! I like trivia myself -- I'm a big "Jeopardy!" fan, and I used to love playing Trivial Pursuit -- but I think you would put me to shame any day.
Hey, Candi, are you still around? Thanks for starting this thread. I hope we haven't hijacked it too bad.
Hey, no problem at ALL -- Nothin' better than a "nostalgia fest" with a bunch of BESTIES
And who mentioned "Phar Lap" ??? I love that True Story...

But it will BREAK your Heart.

Fury was a great one here also.
Another horse and a kid TV show that was really popular was "My Friend Flicka".
I recall it was a chestnut horse with a white blaze......maybe?!
And the original FILM of "My Friend Flicka", from the book, is just GREAT

My table won at trivia when I challenged the "judges" on a breed of dog.
Even though the info they had backed them up I insisted they look it up.
They did and I was correct so that one point put us past a tie.
Don't think the other team was happy about that.
The dog?
They showed a Picture of a red Tibetan Mastiff and said it was a Chow.
DUH!!!
GOOD you called 'em out & then WON -- Chow-Chow = Tibetan Mastiff ??? No way, Jose, LOL...

Phar Lap is probably one of my favorite horse movies - second only to The Black Stallion, of course
THERE's your "Phar Lap" post, Kelly !!! And just as I was about to mention "The Black Stallion" -- IMHO one of the most Beautifully Filmed movies EVER
Certainly one of my FAVE books as a Child ... And they surpassed my expectations with the fabulous Cinematography (OMG).

I didn't see the movie of The Black Stallion, but I read every one of those Black Stallion books by Walter Farley -- some more than once.
They were great!

And if you really want your Heart ripped out, don't forget "Ruffian" (2007) with the recently deceased Sam Shepard -- And there's also a documentary about her...

DITTO on all the Walter Farley books, but "The Black Stallion" film is for sure a Must See movie, Connie !!! (And not on a little Computer screen either, IMHO) The young boy starring in it is NOT an actor, but just a "ranch kid" from Colorado who could ride like the wind & had no trouble at all holding his own with the likes of MICKEY ROONEY

As a direct result of this thread, I looked in my movie collection for "The Black Stallion." I couldn't believe that I apparently don't have it. I will make it a point to fix that soon! Candi, you're right, the cinematography of the movie is breathtaking, especially the first half or so, where there is little dialogue but you don't even miss it with the scenes of the boy and the horse on their deserted island.
The talk of the movie "Secretariat" prompted me to look up his historical win at the Belmont Stakes. Here's the real thing. The announcer estimates that he won by 25 lengths. It was actually 31. I still get shivers down my spine and a lump in my throat every time I see this:

And if you watch the movie, keep an eye out for the cameo appearance by the real-life owner, Penny Chenery (played by Diane Lane in the film).
