Would anyone here 'pass by on the other side' if they saw an adult beating a child or animal, because "It's none of my business!" ??? I think not... it's simply a matter of degree, that's all.
Whole different deal, IMO. I HAVE seen someone beating their dog....and forcefully removed that dog from that particular individual. In my "real life" I'm an advocate for folks that can't stand up for themselves, and I'm an abuser's worst nightmare. I think it's TOTALLY appropriate to get involved in that kind of situation. But that's not what we're talking about here. We're talking about a surgical procedure. For perspective: Some folks ( A LOT of people where I live, actually) think prong-collars are cruel; I don't and neither do most good dog trainers. Am I going to be willing to take an earful for using one every time someone who doesn't have any experience with one feels like they have a right to inflict their opinion on me? Not so much. <img src="http://www.leerburg.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
Roger,
From a Mod standpoint, nothing that you said was over the top.
To Roger and for everyone else, I'd like to point out that the majority of our posters reside in the U.S. which leads me to post my opinion that:
Attitudes in the U.S. often clash with those of the Euro's - a debate on freedoms that we take for granted in the U.S. such as gun ownership, dogs, etc. are not the culture norms for those overseas and a discussion/ debate regarding them usually has no point. Neither side can see the point of the other side.
Security and conformity are valued higher in Europe than in the U.S., while individuality and freedom are more valued in the U.S.
While I'm making sweeping generalities, these values do make debates between people with a different culture bias kinda useless, as I've seen in the past.
