... BUT- Basically it seems that no one ever gave you a diagnosis of a problem, therefore you are in the dark about what to do. Diarrhea is just a symptom. ... If this was my pup, I would give it one more week, and then I would take a stool sample to a different vet and FIND THE PROBLEM and work from there to cure it.
guys, 3 days have passed with flagyl and lomotil and i havent seen ANY change yet. on the last day when i gave him yogurt i realized that the stools were a TINY bit firmer (go down in parts and not as one go but are still loose) and definitely "COLDER". does that mean anything? maybe i should wait till the 5th day and see what ll happen?
shouldnt lomotil get his stools firm by the second day?!
but one thing s constantly on my mind: maybe his stomach is getting better but its a matter of the chicken or rice that he s eating and he cant digest... should i try hamburger instead and see? so he would have had worms AND doesnt digest chicken or RICE.
btw i dont think he s taking weight still. but weirdly enough he seems buffer from the front, but his tummy is sucked inside and rib cage and bones are all out there.
Michel, it might be a good idea to decontaminate the house just in case. I would also carry a small spray bottle with bleach solution around and spray it every time he goes potty. Just in case there is an infection you probably don't want to spread it and have your pup get re-infected later. Nevermind the parvo reference in the link, it was the first thing that came to my mind because that was the problem we had to deal with. Get a definite diagnosis.
Take a stool sample to a different vet tomorrow and give them the history of the medications that you have used, specifically the dates you have dewormed the dog.
Ask them to check for coccidia, for hookworm and for whipworm. You don't need to bring the dog in for the initial appointment . Find out what tests are needed for digestion problems like a deficiency of the pancreatic enzymes, I don't remember how that works, maybe someone on this forum could answer. I don't remember the differential diagnosis of long-standing diarrhea in dogs, but I can tell you that diarrhea is a CRISIS in many homes and can be a reason people put dogs to sleep (soiling carpets etc. ) so there will be a good protocol to help you.
If the Lomotil/Flagyl combo was going to work it would be working by now, IMO.
You are not by any chance giving your pup milk, are you? If so, quit that.
I don't think his problem is caused by anything you are doing or not doing, I think there is some pathology there and soon you'll find an answer and a treatment that works.

It might also be good if you sit down today, ahead of time, and write exactly what you have given/done so far.
It's hard to be coherent and methodical in a vet phone call or explanation to the receptionist.
But yes. I'd get that fecal to a different vet ASAP and make clear how long this has been going on.
ok day 4 on lomotil flagyl, nothing changed. energy is still very good... dropping off stool sample tomorrow to the vet. he wants me to continue ANOTHER WEEK of lomotil flagyl. m not gonna do that before i check his stools sample and test for other possible digestive issues (i hope it s not EPI
wish us luck guys! this situation should get much better soon.
