More down, sit, stand on a narrow bench, he's getting it now to not fall off. I also had him do the touch command for a toy not a treat...much harder for him to not obsess over the toy. Other than that heeling in the backyard, turns and stops. He had diarrhea today so wasn't his hyena self.

I know many of you will hate me for saying this, but it's 37 degrees outside and I'm tracking in an hour.

Katie - Isotoner makes some really nice convertible gloves (fingerless gloves with a mitten flap that folds over your fingers when you don't need to use them). They are lightweight, warm and fit my hands really well. I love them for dog training in the cold!
I found mine at Kohls.

Yep, Katie is making me feel very guilty.
All kidding aside, you are an inspiration, Katie (and all of you participating in this thread!)
Now, if I can just get past these 12-14-hour workdays and have some time for the dogs.

Ain't that the truth!
To answer your question, Katie, I've been working on not one but three rush jobs that started a couple weeks ago and will probably go on till the middle of January.
So when it gets like this, I consider it a good training day if I can convince my husband to take the dogs outside and play fetch or maybe even do a five-minute marker training session on the basics. As soon as I can, I want to get back to some serious work on focused heeling for the one dog, and improving the retrieve on both of them.
eta: As you can see, I still find the time to take little breaks to check in at Leerburg LOL. Have to take these brief mental vacations to keep myself sane!

Busy schedules can hog up our dog time! What I try and do during those times, (just came out of one of those times) is to incorporate training into the daily activities I do at home. That means, working mostly on review and waits. I trained the dogs to not come into the kitchen when I am cooking. However, I am blessed to work at home. So when I am outside working, we work on recalls. As I do the work, I keep treats in my pocket and then when they are the farthest from me, I recall them.
Anyway, today is going to be a dog training day. I have outside work to do, inside work to do and I plan on reviewing inside, and then after I work outside, do individual work. Bindi will go out to the shopping mall to work on her healing in a crowd, and greeting people. Cody will be trained at home, on heel, going into heel position from standing in front of me, waiting, down and sit from a distance. Terra will review heel and sit and downs and waits. Lord willing, if I have enough energy after that I want to give Terra a nice warm bath. She is still taking prednizone and is very hyper. I want to spend time soothing her.
That is it for me today as far as dog training goes.
Looking forward to others posts.
Dog training school is off this week (sunday) and it may be off on New Years day as well so I have plenty of time to review and deepen the skills in Bindi's heart.
That is the only draw back to taking a training class for us, each week it moves on to something else to learn, and kinda reviews the week before, sometimes. I like time to really work in the new skills into bindi's little dog mind. So looking forward to reinforcing her lessons while we are off.
Have a wonderful day today. Cold here, 42, but I love the crisp clean air!
