Following the thread and I have nothing to add still. Just wanted you to know that I'm sending positive energy to you and Vince.
I learned a long time ago to tell the vet to use grade school English when talking to me that I need things explained very simply. THen I need him to tell me the options with pro's and cons and then I ask what he would do if it was his dog and why.
And I take notes.....
Don't know if that will help or not!

Got any tricks for slicing these little pills in half?
If you don't have a pill-cutter, you can use small sharp thin-blade scissors. I have better success with the small scissors than with a paring knife.
Is there a line across the middle?

Take a sharp kitchen knife, place on top of the pill and whack it -- or smash up the whole pill and cut the dust into equal piles on a piece of foil or wax paper.
It's pretty tasteless.

Yes.
Was just going to use a knife. Never thought about scissors. Brilliant. And I thought it was a silly question.
I have a lot of these to do, well, not a lot, 8. Something told me you'd have a trick.
And okay Dr. Betty, that's good to know. He's a great pill taker so hopefully I can just slice these cleanly and make sure he gets just the right dose.

Put the pill in closer to the handles of the scissors, nearer where the blades join -- not at the tip of the blades. MUCH less shooting around the room of the pill halves. I cup the operation with my left hand while the right one operates the scissors (remember -- narrow-blade scissors, like manicure scissors) and I do it over a big table .... not a tweed carpet.
Guess how I know that?

Connie, I hope you're going to find the humor in this.
I used to cross stitch years ago (keep swearing every year I'm going to take it up again) and have this very tiny, sharp pair of scissors for the intricate work. Well, Mr. Wonderful is home now and I'm crashing around a back room looking for my bag of stuff.
He comes in and says, What...are you doing? Told him I was looking for the scissors in my cross stitching stuff. He gave me that quizzical look and I told him that Vince's new pills need to be cut in half. He said let me see those pills. I dropped what I was doing, went and got the bottle and gave him a pill.
He snapped it in half, perfectly. Connie, these things are so tiny, there's no leverage. I don't think I could have done that.
In any case, I said there's seven more Mr. Muscles, do want to do the whole batch for me? I don't think it took him a minute and I have a bottle of half pills for Vince.
Sometimes men can just be so attractive.

Well, Oliver's NSAID have a line across the middle, but I cannot break them with my fingers when they are new. A few days after the bottle has been opened, however, I can.
Obviously, they are at least slightly sensitive to moisture in the air, even though I keep the bottle covered, etc., etc.
So for a few days I have to use the scissors and for the rest of the month, not.
I imagine a big strong-fingered Man could do them for me those first few days.
When I've tried it, I actually hurt the joints in my thumbs and index fingers!
I was leaving all this out for the sake of simplicity, but there ya go. (The Pred tablets I have a even tinier than Oliver's NSAID. I don't think I could break them at any time.)

^^^Not to take away from the above^^^
...in his normal everyday activity their anus is clenched shut (umm..like clenched fist)....if it's open you would definately be able to see the difference...sending out some prayers and thoughts to my fellow Canadian xo
I was skimming over your post and for an instant there I though that was your illustration. closed/open Sorry...LOL
never thought of it that way...but hey...it could be!!
but alas, i was just sending some love to CJ! I wasn't that clever :0(
oh, and CJ if your man's fingers start to cramp,(when he's trying to break the pills, just in case we have some dirty minded people reading this!)
try one of these:

Once, Paul came home from work to find me attempting to break some pills in half for one of the dogs. They were frickin TINY. I tried with my fingers, and ended up with little divits in the tips. Then I tried a knife which resulted in an hours worth of searching for the piece that flew across the room.
Paul laughed at me. I may or may not have threatend his life. He went out and bought a pill cutter for me while I was searching under the fridge for the lost piece
See, anger and swearing DO pay off
CJ, I hope the Pred is the miracle we're all praying for. Kisses to Vince, and hugs to you and hubby!!
