My dog bears some resemblance to Fama, in that she has a powerful chest. Long ago, I noticed that she has a bit of a "hop" (I always thought of it as a skip) in her rear end when loping or running half-speed. Both rear legs move at the same time. It only happens when she is relaxed/farting around. If she's in an all-out run or a normal walk, there is no funky movement. Noone else has ever made note of it. I always thought it was because the front end was doing most of the work, and the back end was just skipping along to keep up. I do, however, watch it to make sure I don't see any signs of stiffness in her hips.
I also noticed that the center toenails on her back feet don't wear as much as the other toes. Again, I attributed it to her not pushing off as hard with the rear.
David, I hope the bunny hop turns out ok. I haven't logged in for over 6 months but just read the updates on this thread and had to say WOOHOO!!!! I often think about Fama and the life she has lead and am so happy to hear she's coming home at last Hope you can go home to enjoy her soon!
Thanks Duane. That may be the case. The person that visited her said that she is really getting around well. I'm looking forward to seeing the MRI. I understand what you mean about the rear not being as active.
It's not HD Anne. Her xrays were negative. I'm glad for that.
Thanks Amy! I'm in the process of clearing now. I should be home in the next week or so. I can't wait!
The opportunity to be together again is almost overwhelming. Through the generosity of an internet friend, we will be reunited. I look forward to letting Fama be a dog and make choices for herself. No pressure to accomplish the mission. No need to work through injury or fatigue. She will be my demo dog if she wants to, or play with the other dogs and nap on the couch. No more living in the kennels. No more Hills SD garbage food. No more new handlers to deal with, moves across the country with unfamiliar people to unfamiliar places. Just time with the family, working when she feels like it, lounging when she would rather. Good food, good friends and good times, something we should all be so lucky to have.
One of the benefits of being involved in a Schutzhund club is all of the new friends you make. One of the downsides is that we all have dogs, and as they get older we lose them. It seems like my club has had more than its share of losses in recent months, including another one today. It can really start to weight on you. Reading news like yours, however, is exactly what I needed. Sometimes a good thing happens in the universe and makes you feel like the ship is still heading in the right direction.
Thank you for the update, and please keep them coming. I'm so happy for Fama... and your family, of course. I really hope you do a demo or tour someday that I can attend to get bit by meet that girl of yours.
I have made many friends up your way. I plan on visiting several breeders in your area. I'll be sure to let you know so we can get together.
