Is this a different vet who says to continue the meds for another week? Did you ask him about stopping it while waiting for the stool tests, etc.?
This is only Day 4? I have a feeling that maybe the comment about "it would show results by now" was based on thinking that was Day 5, not Day 3. But I could be wrong. I have mentally jumbled the info on this kind of confusing thread at least twice.
hey Connie,
"This is only Day 4? I have a feeling that maybe the comment about "it would show results by now" was based on thinking that was Day 5, not Day 3. "
i think m gonna completely blame that one on our totally different timezones! i think we re at a 11 hour difference here? it s 12:53 am as i m writing this ..
as for the vet, the one giving flagyl/lomotil is the new one.
i m gonna ask him about meds discontinuation while stool sample is being analyzed. thanks putting it to my attention connie.
extremley long and confusing thread huh? i hope i stops growing soon so i can switch to asking about "raw diet" and training tips! maybe posting some pictures and chitchatting with you guys!

Yes, that's good. I wouldn't want to have to start it over if you stopped it, but also would want to know if it should be stopped for the poop test(s). Either way, I'd clarify.
listen ... i donno if it is of any importance but usually – not every time – some brownish spit drips out at the end of the BM.
i didnt give it much importance.. do u think it means anything?
i m sorry for the HUGE amount of questions.
i changed vets because i felt he was being annoyed by all my inquiries and research – kennel s telling me to "let the problem solve itself" and "give the puppy time to heal alone".
am i being too concerned about this!? i feel it s normal that i d wanna see him get better and try to solve the pbm (that kennel thinks doesnt exist), isnt it?
in all cases, i m aware of all the posts i ve been posting (a bit less than 48 and counting), m sorry if m overwhelming you with questions and thank you again for the support.
ok just saw the vet. he freaked when i said i was back on RC because his stools were better on it .. i guess you guys have something in common ..
anyways, he wants me to boil him some burger meat and feed him only twice a day but AS MUCH FOOD AS HE WANTS (!?) he s like if he finishes his bowl at night after 1/2kg of meat, just add more till he s full. he doesnt care if its even around 1kg of meat. i told him i was feeding him small meals 4 times and he preferred i made his digestive system rest by seperating the meals 12hrs.
he also upped the flagyl dosage to 4 a day instead of 3 (he thought karly was 2months old when i spoke to him on the phone..)
test results should come out within 2 days.
he thinks its still early to look for pancreatic insufficiency especially since his stools are firming up slowly and there s no vomiting or lethargy.
i asked about dangers/side effects of flagyl and lomotil and apparenlty it s one of the meds he trusts the most and would even give for weeks on end ... i didnt know what to make of it.
apparently some people take it on a regular basis to firm up their stools ... i dont think that solves the problem ..

I think you should ask any questions you want here, but also remember to ask questions of the vet when he gives you instructions you don't completely understand or agree with (and I'm glad you have started to do this!).
I disagree about the large meals, but that's OK. What he says also makes sense. And he's the vet!
So ... we'll see.
I didn't know the stools were firming up slowly, so WAHOO!
hehe actually they re driving me crazy cause at some point they re firmer, then they go much looser, just back and forth!! pisses me off! the sample if gave the vet was relatively firmer than the rest. firmest i ve seen so far (since 5weeks)
if it were my dog I'd have CBC/chem12/Lytes done, just in case. Most blood tests only take 30 mins. Also I'd probably test for those things Karly was vaccinated against, if not all then at least those that may cause similar symptoms. It has been going on for how long? Since you got him from the kennel a month+1wk ago? I'd be very impatient to get the diagnosis by now.
