Screw your simulators.
They are as a necessity limited in scope, there just isn't a computer big or fast enough to run all the algorithms it'd take to simulate real life. And no matter how it 'feels' they always come down to the same thing......IT DOESN'T MATTER because it isn't real.
You think you can learn your chops on the race circut by playing some stupid seat of the pants feeling game? Go ahead take a step out on a real race track. Or go out on some deserted highway and floor it. Yeah go ahead, I'm from the west coast I know those places exist, go out and just floor it.....get back to me let me know (that is, if you live) if it comes close to resembling some kind of arcade game. Just silly to even suggest it does or could, much less saying real sweat blood and guts race track experience can be learned there.
The 'real' simulators are for the pros (of whatever ilk) that want to hone a particular set of skills or to revisit some they haven't used in a while and the scenerios are very narrow in scope. Otherwise your precious simulators are just for wanta be's.
You want robots? Put them in a simulator. The only real thing they'll learn is to take orders.
But you hardly need put anyone anywhere close to one anymore. Everybody is already coming out an already made robot! Woorah for progress.
So take your simulators, have a good time, just don't try and pretend you're learning any thing about life.

We actually have a local thief that taught himself to fly using MS Flight Sim. I think he's up to 5 plane thefts now. He's becoming quite the local legend unfortunately.

So he can get an airplane air borne. So he can land a small plane without killing himself or someone else.
How many hours does he have solo?
Do you or would you consider him a pilot?

You completely missed my point. I didn't hint that all returning vets were like this. I theorized that there may be some vets that got used to killing dogs and hyperviolent house raids, then became LEOs and still operate under a martial law frame of mind.
No, I didn't miss the point, I understood it perfectly. I simply found it insulting to our military. JMHO.
A sign of an intelligent mind is the ability to entertain a thought without having to accept it.
Interesting...I think the sign of an arrogant mind is one which assumes anyone who disagrees with them is less intelligent.
How 'bout no more name calling and we agree to disagree? I'm going to assume you don't really think anyone who disagrees with you is less intelligent, but perhaps just looks at things from a different perspective.

We don't use dogs for a job they can't perform, we shouldn't do any different with people.
Speaking of the right man (or beast) for the job...
Michael, I think we could all use some Care Bears right about now... I mean, I think you would be totally within your rights to summon them right now... the SWAT team can sit this one out - Cheer Squad anyone? Anyone?

~Natalya I would, but the Care Bears won't come out of Mama Care Bear's basement.
They're learnin' to fly planes and drive race cars.
I'm still trying to figure out how the hell video games got into this thread.

I actually happen to be a spirited driver and prefer going fast through turns. The car I own was built for handling with a near perfect 50/50 weight distribution, which is one of the main reasons why I bought it, and I've upgraded that handling with quality parts. Sims like Forza show you how to find a racing line, where to hit the brakes before a turn, when to accelerate out of a turn, how to find the edge of the friction circle, and a few other very important fundamentals. What they won't teach you is how to feel the car's weight transfer, how to feel an individual wheel break loose, and most things related to actually being in the car. Feel free to educate yourself on driving techniques: http://www.turnfast.com/technical Beyond that, I know dirt oval racers that thoroughly enjoy playing NASCAR racing sims to keep up on their technical skills in the off-season and throughout the week.
The Army seems to think they made America's Army as a training sim and recruiting tool. I mean, the game is free and they even hand it out at recruiting offices. Look what Paxton Galvanek was able to do with the totally unrealistic training in America's Army: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/digitalnation/waging-war/a-new-generation/playing-americas-army.html Clearly, the Army designed this game for wannabes by using real information.
The fact that you don't seem to understand what a simulator is doesn't change the efficiency with which they work. Oddly, neither does your obvious disdain for me nor your thinly veiled insults.
Interesting...I think the sign of an arrogant mind is one which assumes anyone who disagrees with them is less intelligent.

Once again, you missed my point. I was attempting to get you to think a little more openly. You seem to be looking for a reason to be offended, though. More power to you. Nothing I say will convince you otherwise.
