ban the breeds that most frequently inflict bites, such as pit bulls or Rottweilers.
I for one don't believe that these are the breeds that "bite most frequently". I can't link to it because it's a few years old, but one study I read said that Cocker Spaniel bites were the most frequently seen in ER's. Those (Pbs and Rotts) are just the ones that make the headlines.
While a truly viscious dog of any breed should be put down, I believe most dog bites are actually correction bites by the dog and are the fault of people (1) not training their dogs, (2) treating them like human children, and (3) not teaching their children to respect dogs and how, as well as when to approach a dog.
When I was growing up back in the dark ages, we learned how to approach a dog and our parents didn't panic over minor bites as long as the dog had it's shots. In fact, the first question was usually, "What did you do that the dog bit you <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />?" Maybe the fact that dog's generally ran loose where I grew up (No, I do not advocate that at all)helped because we met up with and learned from all sorts of dogs. Or maybe just the fact that people in general had more animal experience back then helped.
