I'm asking because I want to title my dog in this, and would like to know what level of maturity a dog typically needs to have.
From what I have read, the opposition to the dog is hard.
Hey Andres,
Yes, the opposition in ASR is hard. I can't give you hard numbers, but in the last couple of years, the average age for an Entry Level has been around 18mos-2yrs. There are some that have done it at an earlier age (Chris Duhon did it with a 10mo old mal), but that is not the norm. Be aware, though, that most folks who try ASR for the first time have been training for something else. As the program grows, and folks begin to train pups aiming towards ASR, I expect the average age of the Entry level dogs to come down.
Basically, if your dog can take good pressure from the decoy, and will out cleanly (and you have good ob on the dog), you'll get past the Entry. Level 1 and above is a totally different game.
There have only been 2 ASR 3's, and I believe the youngest was 4. I will check on this, and be sure to give you the correct numbers.
If you have any specific questions about the program, feel free to PM me here, or email me.
